First of all, a manager at a resturaunt like Capital Ale House would NOT yell at a customer even if the person was harassing or threatening someone of the staff or another customer. Its just good professionalism to not do that. A manager would NOT say rude comments like that as they kick someone out, they would simply call the authorities if someone is getting out of hand (trying to slip their son a drink of alcohol is not excluded). In other words, I am saying that you sir (or ma'am) are a liar and I would not trust your review on this resturaunt.

Pros: Good Beer List

Whoever chooses the beers for this place ought to get an award. Being spoiled in Belgium and Germany by beers that have taste(!), the rotating drafts and weekly changing beer menu here are marvelous, and they do great seeking out unusual and unique beers. The food is worth going for as well. The salmon for their salmon salad is perfectly cooked, the mussels never disappoint, and the groups we've taken there have been over all satisfied with the offerings. The Sunday night prices are a great draw too. We end up there more nights than we ought to! Fun!

Pros: Great beer offerings! Amazing.

Cons: None from me.

I want to post a reply to the review about the military family: If the son wasn't of age to legally drink in this country, the establishment had every reason imaginable not to serve him! It's illegal and they can lose their ABC license. If it was my place, I would have done the same. I don't care if you are the Pope, if you are not 21, or cannot prove so, then you don't get served. The father should not have made such a scene about serving a minor. He should have known better, military or not. I love Capital Ale House and have never been treated poorly by any of the staff or other patrons. It really is a great place for an after work Happy Hour!

Pros: Extensive drink lists

Cons: Parking stinks, but parking anywhere in downtown Richmond is tough

I love this place! My steak was cooked exactly to my liking... I especially enjoyed the Garlic-Herb Mussels. I came in expecting bar food and got so much more! My only dissapointment was discovering the pool table when it was time to leave!

I was appalled at the treatment of a military family who had brought their army son into this establishment. After attempting to order a beverage for their son they were told that they would not and could not serve their son even if the beverage was ordered by the father. The manager created a scene that was highly embarrassing to this family and as she told them to leave the premises, the manager had the audacity to disrespect the family and the soldier and stated "don't let the door h*t you in the a**" and "never come back" to the soldier's mother after a heated argument for all patrons to hear. I felt the service and treatment of this poor family was disrespectful to a degree that I could not bear and immediately left the bar. This family was attempting to celebrate their son's return from duty and to be treated in this manner speaks volumes for how the owner's of this bar appreciate our brave young heros. I will never set foot in this establishment again -- written by a proud american with enlisted family.

Cons: Poor Management, Poor Judgment, Terrible Customer Service

Selection of beer is fantastic and the taps are consistently rotated offering a different choice almost every week. Pool tables and dart boards are good to hang out with friends. Food is horrible and service is average if you're lucky. Example,tThey've thrown my credit card away 3 different times finding it in the trash can twice and throwing it out once! Clue in guys, move the trash can away from the credit card holder next to the register.

Pros: Beer selection

Cons: Food, Service, Attitude

The beer list is great. However, the food quality is poor, and and the service and attitude of the staff is even worse. Be prepared to wait longer than your told and don't expect an apology. The attitude is clear - we have plenty of other customers so we are not concerned with you. Good luck.

Pros: good beer

Cons: , food, long wait

I must say that the wide array of beer selections available more than makes up for the smaller selection of menu food items to choose from. The desserts are devine though, and you can't beat the classic burger and fries. Definitely a place to go and chill with friends, grab something to munch, and sip on a few yummy cold ones. One of my favorite places to go!

Pros: BEER!, Accessible Parking, Bar Ice Strip

Cons: , Sometimes Crowded, Limited non-smoking
