Went today and tried to catch an early dinner, but could not. The place was busy, packed and uncomfortably hot. Everyone from the cooks, wait staff and customers had a sweaty sheen to them. My only real interest was the seafood chilli which they did not have available to serve. Regrettably enough, I decided to leave because the rest of the menu did not seem inventive enough. I gave it three stars for its local vibe and busy patronage, which is always a sign of good food.
Pros: local vibe, simple cooking
Cons: crowded and AC is weak

My friends and I were in Richmond, VA this weekend and a local recommended this spot , when we got there the aroma floated us in.... Even though we did not dine in, just sitting there had us salivating and just straight drooling after we got our food. Delicious beyond measure.!! Portion size fit for Shaq! Everything about the meal was perfect.! Flavor of perfection! *Fried Fish/Vegetables Platter*. And talk about service..... the hostess/cashier is very friendly and attentive (white sista), hooked us up with some sodas to go. She even ran after us in the rain after we forgot our water. Thanks cause we needed to the wash down the food. We recommend this to anyone driving through Richmond. This is a must. Comments left by "Jamaican", "NYer" and "Jerseysian" by way of Atlanta.

I found Croakers through this site, and it is just terrific. We had a very short wait, and then were treated to some terrific seafood and great service. I recommend the fried platter to be split by two people. I asked the waitress what people said when they ordered it for one, and she smiled and said "they always ask for a box." Get an appetizer - take your time. This is a place to savor. Don't dress up - it's a down home neighborhood spot. You won't leave hungry, or remotely be sorry you came.
Pros: Great food - fair prices - huge portions
Cons: The neighborhood is a little rough.

Croaker Spot is one of Richmond's best restaurants .......if you want some home cooked food that only the best cook in your family can pull off. I usually get their fish boat which is literally 2 whole fish, a large side of delicious well seasoned potatoes and a big, sweet piece of corn bread (under $9). Makes me hungry just thinking about it. However, you definitely need to call this in and pick it up. Fridays are simply off limits to me...the lines are insane (u aren't going to be able to do an hr. work lunch). But if you are fortunate to get there with no line..u will be pleasantly surprised. They also have great freshly made limeade and cakes.
Pros: alot of food for the money ...and good food at that
Cons: lines are too long during lunch and dinner

This is one of the undiscovered gems in Richmond, although more folks are discovering it everyday! The food is outstanding and the service is friendly. However, you reall have to plan your visit for off hours, because the restaurant is SMALL and the wait can be LONG. The scallops and cheese grits are my favorite, although it's hard to say no to the fried fish boats, which are their specialty. The prices are also extremely reasonable. Well worth the trip downtown!
Pros: FOOD
Cons: parking, wait time

Reminds me of places in the French Quarter. Small, steamy hot, crowded with great food. The portions here are ENORMOUS. Bring an appetite or a doggy bag. Try anything. Shrimp and grits is about the only thing that one stuff you wide open. Traditional soul food. Wash it down with a Corona or an Appletini. Beware of the Appletinis though - they are only $5 and are about 3 times the size of a regular martini. Great place to eat before an event at the Richmond Coliseum or the Convention Center. Get there early or be prepared to wait a long time.
Pros: Food, Value
Cons: Size
