Sydney and Frances Lewis helped the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts become the jewel of the state's museums and a world class institution. Featuring the art of Andy Warhol (of themselves, Elvis, and the famous "Marilyns"), Claes Oldenberg ("Clothespin Ten Foot") Chuck Close, Duane Hanson ("Hard Hat Construction Worker"), Elizabeth Murray (Summer Wind), and many other greats.
Curator John B. Ravenal has redesigned the way patrons discover the works. Aside from grouping the works into time periods, he has divided them into rooms, which creates a walking path of impressive and insightful artistic creation. You walk through and discover each piece skillfully guided by a true friend of art. Just be prepared to spend several hours gawking at genius and dream of your own latent talents.
