Ava's Day Spa

I have been going to Ava's since she started out as a small nail salon. I have seen her business go from that to the Day Spa that it is today. I have always received excellent customer service and have always gotten the best for the money that I have paid. I've done the nails, the hair cuts, the waxing and the tanning. The staff is always courteous and has always made sure that my needs are provided for. Thanks Ava's and staff for a job always well done.

if you've never been here... you should never go!! definitely don't bring your young children to AVA'S... there is a Six (replace I with a E) offender that works there!! you may know her by her name... I have been to Ava's three times. I should have known better after the first time, but I wanted to give Ava's the benefit of the doubt. I will never go back. Don't waste your money here. The atmosphere is definately not what you would expect a spa to be. It is loud and unorganized, part clothing store, part hair salon, and little rooms for their "spa" treatments. Ava is rude.

Pros: None

Cons: Rude owner, unorganized, prices too high for quality of service. Not relaxing.

I have been going to Ava's on and off for years. I have been extremely disappointed in my last two visits to the spa. There were only two employee that had any customer service skills the rest were all talking about partying, and subjects that should not be discussed in a relaxing enviroment. I was greeted by an employee that was dressed like a slob. Ava has had one employee that has been with her for several years that tried to intervene when she felt my discomfort the other was a hairdresser by the name of Susan. If it was not for these two employees I would have walked out with color in my hair. I have left messages with Ava to discuss this and she has not returned my calls or e-mails. I am sorry to see that a spa that had it all has changed to this.

I made an appointment a week in advanced to have a bikini wax. I spoke with Ava on the phone and she seemed very nice. I arrived at my appointment about 30 minutes early. I was told that Ava would be doing my waxing and that she would arrive shortly. The receptionist was nice and other staff members kept coming up to me, asking if I had been assisted. When I first walked in it was nothing like I expected. This "spa" is one half store and other part salon. I found the atmosphere to be cluttered and loud, nothing that you would expect at a spa. After sitting and waiting 45 minutes after my appointment was to start, Ava finally arrived. I was offered a glass of wine, which was nice but it was given to me in a plastic cup. It took Ava 15 minutes after she arrived to lead me to the waxing studio that was a simple table in the room the size of a closet. It was hot and cramped. I asked if it was possible to have my eyebrows done also. Ava sent in another waxer to do my eyebrows. It was the worst eyebrow wax I've ever had. Not only did the waxer get wax in my hair and had to cut it out, she left one eyebrow a lot thicker than the other. I was so frustrated I didn't have her correct it because I was afraid she would screw them up even more. Finally it was time for my bikini wax. I asked for a full Brazilian but ended up leaving with a ton of stray hair down below. It was also the most painful wax I've ever had. Ava used 2 different types of wax and kept going over areas. I was left raw in spots and hairy in others. I also feel like she was in a huge rush the whole time. I was given a free massage because of Ava's tardiness, the massage was horrible. I told the masseuse that I had a Fibromyalgia and to be gentle. She didn't listen. Sometimes it felt like torture instead of a massage. If she was trained properly then she should know about muscle disorders. To top it all off I was charged $60 more than the price I was quoted over the phone by Ava!

Pros: Nice Staff.

Cons: Crappy Services!

I went to the spa to get an airbrushed tan. The lady that did my tan was very nice and professional. She didnt want to do my face at first but after talking to her she agreed. I had to get her to go over me a few times to get the color I liked but in the end I was fairly happy with the results. THe next day after showering much of it came off and my legs didnt even look like they had been sprayed except for a streak. I called Ava to see if I could get reimbursed I was told no but I could get resprayed. After talking to the lady that sprayed she said it could be that it didnt work with my skin. So respraying would be a waste for both of us. Ava then claimed she didnt like my attitude and woulnt give me money back or respray me. She accused me of lieing, she changed my story a when she talked to the lady that sprayed me and was just simply nasty and rude. I called her back on the number she called me on, and it happened to be her cell which I did not know that. SHe got nasty and told me to never call her on her cell!! Overall horrible customer service!!! AVA was very rude and unprofessional

Do NOT waste your money. Overpriced for a terrible job. Not only did I leave with many hairs still outside my bikini line but it has been ten days and I have by far the WORST ingrown hairs I've ever had after a wax. This salon requires you to pay for half of the amount due over the phone with a credit card (should have been a warning sign) and then claim to reimburse you if you choose to pay in cash at the appointment. I was told that I paid $30 and was reimbursed $30, however when my credit card statement came, I was actually charged $40, so Ava's pocketed an extra $10 on top of the $55 I was charged. In addition their prices say, "$x and up." This just gives Ava's a blank check to tack on an extra $15 or $20. When I inquired about the increase in price, Ava was defensive, rude, made excuses, and claimed that she even gave me a "discounted rate!!" I have had a full Brazilian at much nicer salons for less than this so-called discounted rate for Ava's botched bikini wax. In addition, the salon itself is dirty and feels unsanitary. They use rolled wax out of a plastic bottle and the bottle looked old and was crusted around the edges. I can't speak to other services the salon offers, but if you are looking for a bikini wax, any place is better than Ava's.

Pros: They'll take last minute appointments (though that should have been a warning)

Cons: Unprofessional, dirty, bikini wax was extremely unsatisfactory.

I planned a girl's spa day event for me and 5 of my best friends travelling to Richmond from all over the country. I spoke with Ava about setting up the spa treatments for the entire group. She told me that she needed a credit card number before she could see if she could accomodate our group. I did not have a problem giving it to her. She then set up the appointments for massages and facials, etc. for the group. I realized the next day that I had mixed up the dates and I was one weekend off. I called her immediately to fix my error. She told me that there was a $200 charge to rebook everything. I was really caught off guard. I was still planning on have the spa day and spending just as much I had just mixed up the day. I could understand if I was cancelling on her but this was an honest mistake on the date. She told me that is was really a hassle to schedule all those appointments and then have to redo everything. I offered to her that I would spend an extra $200 on services, such as food or drink or products for the group. She said no. I even went to her spa to discuss this with her in person, but she would not budge on this policy. I thought it was very poor customer relations to treat a potential customer that way. I ended up going somewhere else after the way I felt the situation was handled. I am still really irked about it several years later.

I received an herbal facial and focal massage, and it was WONDERFUL!! I love Ava's. She and her staff are very friendly and professional and make you feel comfortable and right "at home". I am going to make it a point to have the herbal massage done once a month. I also took advantage of the custom color foundation service, and I now have my perfect foundation. Ava's is a wonderful spa to go to to look & feel your best. Highly recommended!

I have been a customer of Ava's for MANY years. Over the years I have probably had every type of service offered. Every time I enter Ava's I feel special, Ava and all of her personnel make you feel that way. Last week I treated my daughter to a day at the Spa, and now she is hooked as well! She wants to make it a routine mother/daughter tradition. We both had facial/massage packages and I cannot say enough about how great the day was. Thanks Ava! I highly recommend a day at Ava's to everyone!
