While I am writing this I want to draw the attention of people that most of the reviews about Tandoor Restaurant are pretty old and you can easily find out this from the restaurants menu. I went there with my family and had very lousy experience. This is most recent. I was there with my wife on March 31st, 2007. The atmosphere looks like I am in a morgue. There is no happiness on the faces of staff. Instead of the food smelling of indian spices, there is some funny smell in the dining hall. The slow response of waiter and attention to us helped make the experience terrible.. The menu is so big and useless. All the items taste the same. I will never go there again. I think my experience with other Indian restaurants like India K raja, Curry House, Malabar was great. I highly recommend those restaurants over Tandoor. Tandoor is just a name. They are fake from top to bottom.

I have gone to Tandoor for the last few years and it was always a pleasant experience with good food and a pleasant atomsphere. I recently went there with my family and it was not an enjoyable experience. First, the menu changed and the food is not on the same quality. It took us a while to get served while there were only a few other customers in the restaurant. Once our order arrived it was incorrect and the waiter told us to try it anyway. The dish was cold and it looked and tasted like it was reheated from the day before. The glasware had lipstick marks, the table linens were dirty and looked like they had just been brushed off crumbs and not changed or cleaned. The silverware had food on it as well as the plates. I do not know what has changed at the restaurant but I will not be a patron here again.
Pros: parking and there are very few customers so there is never a wait now

My wife and I have been to Tandoor 3 or 4 times and it is consistently good. I have had the Chicken Tikka Masala which is good (a little too tomatoey but good). I have also had the Lamb Biryani which is just ok. Their Naan and Samosas are very tasty. We love Indian food and have travelled to India, so all and all Tandoor does a pretty good job. Being new to town, we are going to try some other Indian Restaurants in Richmond to make sure we find the best but we are definitely not crossing Tandoor off the list!

I was so put off by the stinch that came from the kitchen as I walked in to have dinner there last night. The waiter had stains of food on his shirt. Then I got wrong order of bread. My Chicken curry had cold peices of chicken in it. It did not taste right. I think they need to put their act together before they open the door to serve people. Not again!

This is simply the best Indian food in Richmond, and probably the best ethnic buffet. I always come for lunch and get the mango lassi or chai tea, both are totally awesome. The food is always fresh and doesn't taste like its been under a heat lamp. They constantly refill the buffet.
