Terrible Food, Amateur Service

by frankbrit

Folks, I read your reviews and decided to visit Angela's while in RIchmond on business. In short, it's not a very good restaurant. When I entered at 7 on a Thursday night, there were only a couple of tables filled yet it took the three people at the welcome desk 5 minutes to recognize that a party of 5 was standing in front of them while they chatted among themselves. Every time the waitress brought the next course, she had the clear the plates from the previous course. Not only at our table, but at every table. At some point she should realize that it would be easier to first clear the table of the used plates, and then bring the new course. The food? The salmon was overcooked to cardboard. The spinach was slimy. The dressing on the salad was a gluey goop, not a salad dressing. The pasta was overdone. I'm glad I don't have to return.

Wonderful!

by njgray

I recently found this place a couple months ago, what a treat! The escargot and calamari were just right, not over cooked or tough. The antipasti plate ,regular, is enough for two people-a real deal! A neighborhood favorite, cozy but upscale. I've enjoye my visits so much I recently gave a gift certificate as a wedding gift since they are real foodies. I'm always looking forward to my next time.

  • Pros: perfect for quiet, romantic or out of the way gatherings

Cashier with serious customer service issues.

by runnerguy

Angela's is a quaint, restaurant with quality food and generous portions. Although it is a bet pricey, sometimes the quality of food makes it worth the extra cost. I have been to Angela's twice and have been pleased by both meals, although the last experience resulted in a very long wait for our entrees, on not a very busy time of the evening. Unfortunately, a nice dinner experience was ruined when we were charged for an item that we didn't order. It felt like the Spanish inquisition as the cashier checked with the waitress regarding the error, with implications of my party fabricating the charge. The cashier was rude, non-apolgetic and literally through the credit card receipt at my wife as she walked off. Quite frankly, I don't care how good their food is if they treat customers like second class citizens. I have never experienced this kind of treatment at any restaurant I've ever been to anywhere in this country. If you go, enjoy the food, but don't question the bill. I won't be going back.

  • Pros: Good food, nice atmosphere
  • Cons: Cashier with poor customer service skills.

Picture Perfect Italian Meal

by palazzotto

Angelas has got to be one of the greatest Italian Places in Richmond the food and atmosphere are Well above enjoyable. When I went i Had the portobella with crab wich melted in your mouth it was grilled will red peppers and onions and the Restrants home-made dressing. As my entree i had the stuffed veal chop it was a veal chop stuffed with italian ham and Mozzerela The meal was fantstic and yet a little pricey it was well worth it

  • Pros: Food, Atmospere
  • Cons: Kind of crowded

A loyal following forgives the out-of-the-way location.

The Scene
There are a lot of Italian restaurants in Richmond, but there are very few with as loyal a following as Angela's. With so many choices, an out-of-the-way place like Angela's can easily get lost in the fray, but thankfully, that just leaves more terrific food for those who know of its charms.

The Food
Though some discount the value of well-cooked pasta and perfectly seasoned sauce, real Italian food lovers know that it's as hard to master as many fancier-sounding entrees. Located in the West End of Richmond, Angela's has been delighting diners for over 15 years with its traditional pastas, veal, chicken and especially their seafood.

easily the best

If you are looking for a great Italian meal of pasta, fish, veal, steak, or seafood look no further. Every meal that I have had at Angelas has been a great experience from the food to the service and atmosphere. It may not look like much from the outside but Angelas is easily my favorite Italian resturant in town.

Nickel & Dime you to Death

by jstutz99

I went to Angela's based on the reviews of this board with six people we ordered a few appetizers and several entree's (5). The waitress said we would have to pay a per plate split fee of $5, since we had six people but only 5 entrees. We asked that since we had ordered as much as we had, could it be waived. She said yes, but when the bill came it was not, and of course they would not remove it. They may have squeezed an extra $5 out of me, but I will never go again. The food itself was pretty good, but with most entrees between $15-$20, it is certainly no bargain.
