The 'West End Best' magazine featured an article a few months ago about the best crab cakes in Richmond and there was this amazing picture of a Skilligalees crab cake made with large chunks of crab meat and light on the filler. What a disappointment! It was one of the worst I have ever eaten and I swear there was almost no crab meat in it at all. The restaurant itself is in desperate need of a renovation and the average age of the clientele was geriatric. Not the nicest review but it was truly a disappointing experience if not bordering on creepy.

Cons: food is not good and ambiance is no better

I moved to the area about 2 1/2 years ago, I have dined at many restaurants since I moved here. A few months ago a friend told me about Skilligalee's and it is by far the best restaurant I have found in the area. They have wonderful food, and a great staff that makes you feel right at home. Don't miss out on this one!!!!!

I work for the Commonwealth of Va and have to travel to Richmond once a week which is three hours from my home. I always eat at Skilligallee's as the food is exquisite!! The atmosphere is terrific, especially on a cold night sitting by the gas logs while wining and dining. The service is great, especially Janet or Chris and the Chef, Roger is fabulous!!!! He always creates a wonderful vegetable of the day that compliments their perfectly cooked lean filet mignon, or the mouth watering lobster tail, or the most tremendous crabcakes or the seafood medley, among many other choices-not to mention the large oysters on the half shell. Their deserts are grand!!! This is probably the best kept secret in Richmond. I am a lover of great food and atmosphere and I really appreciate such a fine restaurant as Skilligallees. Do yourself a favor and don't miss this. If you visit just once, you will be hooked for life!!!!!!!!!

I have been an occasional Skilligalee customer for a number of years and have always enjoyed the experience. Over the past number months however, I have visited on a more regular basis (at least twice a month) because of the warm atmosphere, good food, and friendly professional staff. All of the folks at the Skilligalee especially in the lower level have made us feel at home from the very first visit and has genuinely welcomed us on each visit since. The seafood has always been fresh and well prepared and the times I have ordered a steak it has been very good. The spoon bread is among the best anywhere. At the end of an evening I have always felt that I had a good time with friends even if I had dined alone, thanks to the staff. Thanks, especially to Pam.

Pros: Friendly people, good food

Cons: none from my experience

Classic seafood, casual attitude. With an after-dinner night cap, even the fish feel relaxed.  See the full editorial review.
