Just OK
by FoodNut
I used to live in Richmond , 10 years ago. Back then Millie's had truly good food. Recently I've been to Richmond on business a lot, tried Millie's 3 times in the past year and every time it was just ok. The hype for this place is just too much as often happens in our media spin culture. Millie's is still good, not denying it, but just not incredible.
After nearly 20 years, still the best restaurant in Richmond
by PiperValentine
I'm sure there are a few people who just don't get the vibe or the style of food at Millie's, but there are plenty of other restaurants for those folks. If you're looking for creative cuisine, one of the best wine lists anywhere, and a memorable experience, go to Millie's. Saturday and Sunday brunch are much like attending a rock 'n roll concert, weekday lunches are just what's needed to break up the monotony of work, and every dinner is a work of art. Many staff members (who are also musicians and artists) have been there for more than a decade, and once you've entered the fold as a regular, you are treated as part of the restaurant's ever-growing, amazingly talented, slightly dysfunctional family. If you're a single diner, go in and sit at the counter; you're bound to meet any variety of people who will soon become friends.
Note: under "restaurant info," this site claims that smoking is allowed; Millie's is a non-smoking restaurant.
Not my favorite *** service and decor need upgrade ***food is OK, not a value for the price

High end pricing, quality steak, but there's so much else the diner puts up with that it is not worth it. Ever been to one of those places where it's somehow supposed to be hip that the waitstaff is surly ? They are rife in Richmond, especially downtown, but IMHO Millie's defines that attitude. Customers are supposed to think it urbane to be treated with arrogance and disinterest, while paying top dollar for an experience that can easily be upgraded in other nearby venues for less money. Tried it several times, but no more. Decor adds nothing to the experience. The place seems to have its devotees, but this reviewer is lost as to why.
- Pros: quality steak
- Cons: service below par, staff is disinterested
AWESOME!

Millie's is definitely a sleeper. When you first walk in, you may think you are in the wrong place. The menu was very creative; the staff is very relaxed and helpful. I've only been once. It was for a romantic nite out. I was a bit overdressed. It is definitely a jeans and T-shirt place. Their sparkling wine selection is different. I picked a South African sparkling wine and have never tasted anything so perfect. I will be going for brunch.
- Pros: MENU, CREATIVE CHEFS, GREAT STAFF, RELAXED ATMOSPHERE
- Cons: PRICE
A nice hole in the wall, decent food
by caravaglia
We've been to Millie's for brunch a few times now. It is a nice little hole in the wall, but the food is not as amazing as everyone makes it out to be.
Yes, they have interesting dishes and everything is usually good, but that does not make a place amazing. That is what a restaurant should offer me.
An ok place for a Saturday morning, but not worth the long wait on a Sunday morning.
- Pros: Hole in the wall atmosphere a welcome change from chain restaurants
- Cons: Busy on Sunday mornings, food is only ok, parking can be a problem
Yummy!

Outstanding!!! Best brunch ever. Great service, great environment, and fantastic food. Every time I come to Richmond to visit, we HAVE to go there.
A diner that remains a testament to the power of word of mouth.

The Scene
Millie's is the living, breathing embodiment of the Richmond dining experience. Hunkered down in the valley between Church Hill and the old Lucky Strike Warehouse, Millie's serves amazing cuisine in a history-soaked area of the Bottom. The funky knickknacks, toned-down saffron walls and dark-wood blend create an environment that is cozy and familiar. The service is professional and well-versed in the extensive wine selection.
The Food
If the chalkboard and nightly menus don't give it away, things change fast here, often with fresh and seasonal offerings. Expect the unfamiliar, the exotic and the fantastic. With crème brulee like this, you can always find a little more room. The brunch menu is slightly more predictable from day to day and every bit as awe-inspiring. But being popular comes with a price; expect a wait at rush hour.
Great Brunch

The best brunch in the city. If you like spicy cuisine, then this is the place for you. The Devils Brunch Scramble is amazing. Note though there is quite a wiat when you go for Sunday brunch. Call ahead.
- Pros: Great food, Good Service, Ample parking
- Cons: , Always a wait
The Mess is Great!!!!
by lbotta
Foir those who have eaten at Carman's Country Kitchen in South Philly and had their absolutely delicious food, this place will remind you of it sans the eccentric cook. Actually the cooks here are busy doing their faire right in front of you as you enter into this very casual diner where everyone is at home. Try their signature Brunch dishes, called appropriately "Mess" and you will be delighted! I had the Vegetarian Mess with eggplant, carrots and peppers. My friend had the Western with sausage and bunches of other stuff. All seasoned well and with Vietnamese hot sauce. Unique place in Richmond!
- Pros: Awesome food, Reasonable Prices, Great service
- Cons: Can get crowded
Favorite Hangout in Town
by edmsch
Millie's is world-class food, lively ambience, great drinks and an awesome place for a romantic dinner or a night out with friends or business associates. One tip-it does get crowded. On winter nights when the place is bursting at the seams, put your name on the waiting list and walk up the street to Poe's Pub for a couple of quick drinks. Then head back for what will be one of the best meals you'll ever have.
- Pros: Great Chef, Great Music, Cool wait staff
