A Must Go Richmond Spot

We go to Maymont several times a year, if not nearly every month. They have a barnyard with animals, some injured wild animals, a fantastic exhibit with otters and other native aquatic life, historical buildings, and amazing gardens.

The reason I gave it only 4 stars is because in the last few years it seems the barnyard is not what it used to be. The animal food dispensers have been either done away with or are put away when I am there, and they have very few animals out - mostly goats and a couple of cows. They used to have peacocks, rabbits, chickens, horses, and a feature on square foot gardening.

Currently there is quite a bit of construction going on to add what looks like a new aviary section. I believe it will be worth it.

• Pros: Go at your own pace, wide variety of sights, beautiful grounds, no set price.
• Cons: Get ready to walk - a lot.

Overall Great Experience!!

I have been going to maymont since I was a kid. From school field trips to weekend adventures with friends and family. It is good for all ages! From the fun petting area where you can feed the animals to the beautiful italian gardens, this place is a great time! The japanese garden has a great bamboo forest you can climb through or even stop to feed the ducks (bring bread!). Tons of wonderuful animal and attractions!

Weddings are beautiful here. I am planning a Saturday afternoon wedding with carriage ride in the italian gardens. If you decide to have a wedding here, book way in advance because spots will fill up quickly! A great place to throw a frisbee with family or have a picnic. With all the things to do, you will want to come back for more!

Overview
From the Dooley Mansion that was featured on A&E's "America's Castles" to the intricate Japanese and Italian gardens, this 100-acre park is an ideal date destination and a beautiful wedding site. If animals attract your kids' attention, check out the nature center. Between the 20-foot waterfall, 13 linked aquariums and 200 animals, the young and old are sure to be entertained. Spy on reptiles, take a walk along the trail to spot wild birds and mammals, or visit the working farm, where children feed domesticated farm animals.

The Experience
The Japanese garden is a tranquil getaway. Of course, the requisite arched footbridge traverses the exquisite garden. Visit in late spring, when the wisteria blooms. The Italian garden features the Cascade Fountain modeled after the Villa Torlonia in Italy. There's also herb, butterfly and vegetable gardens among others.

almost like home

maymont is a family tradition we started years ago my guys now 20 and 24 still love going there . you have to be pretty special to go with them there. maymont was our time together, and we did it as often as we could.if you want quality time with your love ones and can handle hills cause i haven't seen one i haven't wanted to roll downyet. then put on your fav.tennies grab some pop and chips head on over we did and still do .

beautiful park

Maymont is gorgeous park with it's gardens and romantic atmosphere. Perfect place to spend an afternoon with boyfriend, husband, or kids. Especially the sea otters, ther my favorite!

The daytime date place

Maymont is the perfect place to take a date. The rolling hills provide for a challenging walk. And the scenery is wonderful - gardens, farm animals, and a nice new Nature Center. The mansion and carriage house are also wonderful.

From the childrens farm, to the mansion (with all its wonderful nooks and crannies -- including the swan bed), to the gardens and all the programs Maymont has to offer, this is a "must be" place for regulars and visitors alike...

Beautiful Splendor

Maymont park offers visitors the chance to see some of natures greatest offerings. Being somewhat of a small zoo but focusing more on the inner beauty of its surroundings, maymont makes any day one to remember. While there visitors should be sure to check out the japanese garden and the bamboo maze.
