BEST STAFF, CUT, AND COLOR ANYWHERE
by starboardmermaid at Citysearch
I was new to the Richmond area straight from Atlanta where I knew all the best salons and where to go and was scared I would never find someone to trust with my hair in VA .....until I found this salon after looking at their website from the 'halfoffrichmond' website where they sell half off coupons once in a while - and you better get them quick - they go fast!!! Their website was chic, modern, sophisticated, simple, and informative to me as a potential customer looking for salon services and prices. After signing up to their email list I was very pleased to receive notices of daily specials which really increase the chance of savings on such services. I believe that this salon understands the needs and the importance of quality spa, beauty, and hair services along with a reasonable price for all clients. I went there after I ruined my own hair with an at home color that I know not to ever do, but of course did it anyway, and the most wonderful stylist I have ever met - JESSE - Mr. Wonderful to me - saved the day! Not only did he correct my color mishap but he gave me the best cut that I have had in years! He is quite a character and loads of fun! HE is a hair genie! Cindy is also wonderful with her massage and quite pleasant to talk with as well. Michael is very talented as well. I will be sticking with those folks for some time to come! I suggest you give these guys a shot before anyone else in Richmond!
- Pros: all of it!
- Cons: zip!
great spa services

I was surprised to see the negative reviews here. I've been going to Nesbit for waxing, manicure, pedicure, and facials for some time. Beth, Jennifer, Blair, and Sam have always done an excellent job, and the reception at both desks and by phone is very welcoming. I know there has been a change in ownership but did not detect any change in quality of service. I would go here for hair, too, but am happy with the woman who has been doing my hair at Del Sol , so don't want to switch. I love the decor of the Nesbit hair salon! Very soothing.
- Pros: nice atmosphere and staff
- Cons: none at all
Terrible
by Emmie12 at Citysearch
I have been going to Nesbit Salon for 6 years and all of a sudden this place has gone down hill. They have let go all of their great hair sylists and there has been so many changes for the bad. I heard that there were new owners and new management and this has to be the reason why this place is a terrible place to go. When you walk into Nesbit it seems so cold now, no one is friendly and they all seem to think that they are better than you. I went to get my hair cut by a senior stylist and she seemed like she had no idea what she was doing, the cut was terrible. So, I went back to get it re-done and they still couldn't get it right. The manager, Melissa, was very rude to me when I talked to her about my messed up hair and seemed not to care that I was so upset. All of my friends used to go to Nesbit as well and they all stopped going because they noticed all of the changes that the new owners have made. It took me forever to find my ususal stylist, but I finally found her and she told me that they fired her and all of the others. Nesbit doesn't know it yet, but they probably won't last much longer. I do not recommend any new clients go there, they are extremely over-priced and I know numerous people that have left there unsatisfied.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Over-priced, unfriendly staff, cold environment
nesbit - the best for hair
by islander373 at Citysearch
when i moved back to richmond in '02 --after living in atlanta for almost 6 yrs and loving my stylist at key lime pie --- i had a hard time finding a salon/stylist in town that could cut my hair right. i have wavy, textured, asian hair, and i wasn't completely satisfied with my cut until i went to eric michael at nesbit in 2003 or '04 (but who's counting). since then, he has provided EXCELLENT service and maintained consistency. i've recommended 4 other friends who have wavy/curly/textured hair to him. i've also been to the various esteticians, wax technicians and massage therapists. although some services were better than others in those areas, i definitely have my favorites and continue to be a customer.
5 stars for nesbit. and to one of the negative reviewers: NO, i don't work at nesbit.
Absolutely wonderful and great customer service

I am from Bethesda, MD and planned my wedding in the city I grew up in Richmond, VA. I wanted to treat my bridesmaids, mom, aunts and cousins to a morning at the salon to have their hair and makeup done before the wedding. We booked the salon for 12 woman. All of us to arrive at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the wedding. We had to be out of there dressed by 12:30PM. The salon had a breakfast waiting for us with free Mamosas. They assigned a team of hair and makeup artists to work on us all. Both my mother and I had an opportunity to get our hair and makeup done a few weeks earlier to make sure we approved of the salon. They were wonderful and did a terrific job. The facility was very clean, really funky, large and they were so efficient and helpful. We had so much fun. Not only did they do everything that we asked for but they supplied a lovely area in their spa for us to get dressed. They accommodated our photograher and videographer. We would strongly recommend this place for anyone that is interested in being treated well.
Thanks you so very much Nesbit for making our wedding day so nice.
Megan and Alberta Rains.
- Pros: Terrific people, talented and a wonderful experience
The WORST experience I have ever had at a salon.
by m7247 at Citysearch
Probably the worst experience I've ever had at a salon. I told the stylist I just needed a trim of an inch to an inch and a half because I'm trying to grow out my hair, and she refused to cut it unless I would allow her to cut 4 inches. Then the stylist next to her told me I should go home and "think about it" and come back when I'm "ready" to have a real cut. Then my stylist tried to lecture me about hair care and that I should never highlight my hair ever again because it was damaged. First of all, when do highlights or chemicals not at least partially damage your hair, and second of all, my hair is very soft and healthy and does not appear damaged at all. She then attempted to talk me into scheduling weekly conditioning treatments. Finally she and the other stylist suggested I go home and print pictures from the internet about haircuts I wanted, even though I already told them exactly what I wanted and they just refused to do it for me.
The receptionist staff was very nice, but the stylists were pretentious, rude and overall just unpleasant.
- Pros: Ambience, Receptionist Staff
- Cons: Stylist Staff - rude, unwilling to satisfy customer requests
Poor facial
by dpstone at Citysearch
The salon offered a discounted service on certain days, so I thought it would be a good time to be introduced to the establishment. The person performing my facial was quite obviously not fully trained and it showed by her over-all awkwardness. She also sealed my skin by toning and then attempted extractions. It was an uncomfortable experience. I alerted the front desk that she MUST be trained further before she can be allowed to "see" clients. Odd, because I thought this was one of the better salons??!
- Pros: ?
- Cons: underskilled staff
Very bad products.
by melloa123 at Citysearch
I bought some intensive moisterizer for my hair, used a little and can't use it anymore. Its smells awful. It got to the point that it started to make me really sick to my stomach. I've talked to a lot of people who weren't happy with their work either. I wouldn't believe the positive reviews... don't they seem a little fake? Like someone who works there wrote them? Thats shady.
- Cons: Products smell bad.
Weak deep tissue massage.
by jimyates at Citysearch
This salon was recommended by several friends for a massage. I booked the massage and asked specifically if they did deep tissue massage, and could they target specific areas. I was told yes. The massage I received was very light and whole body. I walked out feeling not much better than when I arrived. I was expecting one of the best massages ever, instead it was the most expensive and one of the worst ever. I don't think I would go again, for fear of disappointment.
- Pros: Pleasent Atmosphere
- Cons: Expense, not addressing your needs and wants
Horrible. Worst Ever
by mariebennett12345 at Citysearch
I came in asking to be blond... and left a redhead. Furthermore, I was failed to be informed that the back of my head had over an inch of completely blond hair along the roots. I didn't find this out until later when I had my hair done at a respectable salon across town. I was shocked when I looked in the mirror and realized what was going on in the back of my head..... Then I realized why the girls at Nesbit were snickering to themselves as they were blowing out my hair. Tip... if you're going to laugh at how bad you screw up a client's hair... at least go into a back room! Because we can see you in the mirrors.
NEVER WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!!!
- Pros: nothing
- Cons: Price, Friendiness, experience, value, skill
