Buyer Beware
by Ramstein at Citysearch
Buddy's is a fairly small restaurant/bar that has very attractive waitresses and they have several professional male and female bartenders.
Some of the women waitresses are moody and irritable. One waitress in particular operates with seemingly virtual impunity. Several years ago, I was standing next to a waitress that said these exact words about a customer " I overcharged him. Oh, yes, I did." She further went on to high five another customer in a brazen and unabashed manner without any consideration to the harm she caused the customer. The customer who she high fived shook their head up and down in tacit approval.
That, my friends, is an example of either petit larceny or grand larceny, depending upon the amount, according to title 18.2 of the Code of Virginia. It is tantamount to playing God with a customer's finances and is both illegal and grossly immoral. The waitress knew she could operate with impunity as the GM doesn't ever work a shift behind the bar and is uninformed as to what occurs in the business.
Be careful when getting your tab from this business. Know exactly how much you have had to drink. It is too easy to add a drink or drinks to someone's tab that has had a lot to drink. Look to see if waitresses/bartenders are having discussions when you ask for your tab. Do not go to the bathroom when you ask for your tab. Pay attention to what goes on behind the bar and if a waitress appears mad at you.
The food is okay at best but the quality is inconsistent as the kitchen appears to be in disarray. A considerable percentage of the food I witnessed during Saturday and Sunday brunches was thrown away because it was either prepared poorly or was done incorrectly.
The music during the daytime during the week is fairly good. The weekend nights tends to be boring and appeals t too much to the very young and not to the over 30 crowd that the business tends to attract to a certain degree on weekend nights. During weekend days the music is okay.
Bar management is slow to respond to customer concerns and rarely addresses customer concerns adequately as performance concerns often resurface shortly after being addressed with management.
So, proceed with caution if you choose to visit this establishment.
One Great Bar
by cptsternn at Citysearch
If your looking for a nice place to grab a pint, you found it. A mixture of all types of Richmonders and a great staff makes this one of the best bars in the city. There is always a crowd, even during the afternoons. The menu has traditional American fare, and the beer selection is what you would expect a a normal American bar as well (most important, they have Guinness on draught). If you looking for a good time and to meet some people, this is the place to go.
- Pros: Great crowd, Great prices, Excellent service
- Cons: , No live music
Bring a buddy, make a buddy. This Fan gathering spot gives after-hour revelers a reason to raise a glass.

The Scene
This local pub hub attracts a more loyal following than the beer trucks at Friday Cheers--but you'll have a tougher time finding enough space to rest your beer mug. The draw of this bar isn't its atmosphere--which is like a typical Fan hole-in-the-wall--but its unbridled ability to bring in the masses and make them feel at home. The crowd: The tables start filling up shortly after the work bell buzzes, and within hours the booths inside are as full as the nifty deck outside. With all the young professionals flocking here, Buddy's is living proof that a bar doesn't need to be fancy to attract a crowd.
The Food
Buddy's isn't just a bar: Its burgers and sandwiches make it a great place to lunch on a warm afternoon, especially if you can grab a table outside.
