Awesome!
by Pinto
They have a large menu with a wide variety of food, even for vegetarian/vegan, and a few vegan pastries. Staff is helpful and friendly and they have a cozy, comfortable atmosphere. Their shockoe shake is amazing!
- Pros: good food, drinks, SHOCKOE SHAKE, cozy, and friendly staff
Rudeness

This place is a large coffeeshop (not a hole in the wall) and its in one of the older historic buildings in Richmond. It has great ambiance and is very comfortable. Its largely brick on the inside with hardwood floors and the coffee makes it smell great ! Its a great place to relax and have a sandwich. The sandwiches are above average- not the best I've ever had, but always fresh and well done. I recommend the chicken curry wrap. Its excellent!
- Pros: Its a great place to relax
- Cons: parking may be difficult
Best Shakes in Richmond I go here for my dinner dessert!
by kfigg
I love their Shockoe (milk) Shake, and they also have a wide range of flavors available for shakes in general. Never have I found better. And its really very nicely decorated, and it smells so awesome when you walk in, this sweet coffee type smell that permeates through the place.
I want to try their sandwiches too but they close their kitchen rather early (its not really a dinner spot I am guessing), so I can never sample anything else from their menu! They have so many menu items though, I was surprised.
I have had some of the desserts from their case, one was a delicious lemon bar type pastry that I hadn't seen in years (my mother used to make them), another time I had an eclair that was also very good.
I would recommend you stop at this place if you are in the Bottom and have never had a Shockoe Shake. You will judge all your future milkshakes at any other establishments against it!
I only wish they had Soy Ice Cream as an alternative ingredient for shakes. I bet it would rock
- Pros: ambience, location, HEAVENLY MILKSHAKES
- Cons: the shakes cost about 75 cents too much. but hey its a treat anyways right?
Tucked into a corner of Shockoe, this coffee and sandwich shop is a haven for regulars.

The Scene
As with most hip coffee spots, Shockoe Espresso & Roastery provides the perfect place to lounge, with a cushy sofa that backs up to exposed brick walls. The shop is lively without losing its downtown edge.
The Food
The shop offers everything from sandwiches and salads to fresh fruit and quiche plates. Coffee drinkers have an even larger menu with flavored coffees and specialty java drinks. Anyone who suffers a mid-day work slump should try the Shockoe Shake, a creamy concoction spiked with two shots of espresso.
Excellent shakes

I usually take my kids there late Sunday mornings or early afternoons after walking the Canal Walk for some milkshakes. My favorite is the Shockoe Shake. We enjoy drinking them outside under the tree where the kids chase after the birds. Very relaxing times. :-)
The restaurant has a nice, comfy feel to it with a nice reading nook in one corner with a comfortable sofa and chairs.
This definitely isn't your "father's Starbucks" and thank goodness! ;-)
I was recently very surpised, however, to find they've raised their prices quite a bit. Three milkshakes shouldn't cost almost $15. But, then again, the kids are worth it. :-)
- Pros: Warm, inviting place, Great milkshakes
- Cons: Very expensive, Lack of parking
