The Scene
With khaki walls, black-and-white photos and wood accents, the ambience is decidedly classy and laid-back. Smooth swing music suits the mood, and perfect lighting creates a warm space. Beyond the dining room, a cozy back-lit bar is a favorite spot for locals. A small covered patio just off the bar overlooks Currituck Sound. Service is professional and friendly.
The Food
The daily menu consists of simply prepared regional seafood and premium steaks with suggested wine pairings. Start with delicate seared scallops or plump crab cakes packed with sweet lump crab meat. Among signature steak selections, the juicy rib-eye is served with creamy skin-on mashed potatoes and crisp green beans topped with a tangy mustard cream sauce. Jumbo Tuscan garlic shrimp served over rice are infused with flavor, but not overpowering. Desserts include profiteroles sandwiched around vanilla ice cream and warm, gooey pecan pie with chocolate chips.

Our last night in Corolla was spent dining at Mike Dianna's. On appearance, it looks nice. From there, it is all downhill. Our trip was early in the season and the restaurant was not that crowded. We waited over an hour for our meal to arrive, from the time we ordered. Then, my filet, which was ordered medium well (which on their menu states that it will be butterflyed) arrived and was barely warm, and bleeding, and not butterflyed. I sent it back, and waited another 20 minutes only to have it delivered back to me burnt on the outside and still bleeding on the inside. The manager came over to me and asked if it was ok now. I showed him the inside and said it was still not medium well, - (heck, it wasn't even medium). He proceeded to insult me by saying this was a good cut of meat and not what I was used to buying at the grocery store. How the heck does he know what I buy and where!? I paid the bill, left a 20% tip for the waiter and left. Bottom line is this. The restaurant is way over priced. Now I don't mind paying premium dollars but I expect premium service and quality of food. I received neither. I've been vacationing in Corolla for years and eating at Timbuck II on every trip (this is the center where the restaurant is located for those not familiar). My recommendation - Eat at North Banks located in the next building over from this hole. The food is good, and the service has always been outstanding. They too are a ittle pricey, but they can back it up with quality and service.
Pros: It's located in Corolla
Cons: Everything else - Quality, Price, Service, Manager/Owner

The Grill Wood gets 5 stars for it's crab cake appetizer...it's really good. Unfortunately, the service we received and the entree would earn 0 stars. First, we ordered two bottled beers..which appeared promptly but they weren't particularly cold and were served with out glasses (or even offering glasses). The appetizer arrived shortly thereafter and was, as I said, quite good. Then, we ordered our entrees...two of the seafood specials. The waiter asked if we would like a salad...to which we responed yes...be careful here!!! The side house salad ran us $5!!! ...remember to ask if there is an additional charge! Then, as we waited, we had to ask for water and ask for bread....pretty sure we would have gotten neither without asking. Our salads arrived...they were ok (although expensive) and after about 3 bites our entrees arrived and then the evening went even further down hill from there. The brown rice pilaf was...well, not something I would ever eat or serve to anyone I cared about, the green bean things were ...yucky and the two fish entrees were bland and dry. The whole evening was so disappointing we never went back to try other Corolla restaurants but we did enjoy Blue Point and Red Skye Cafe in Duck....I would recommend both.
Pros: good appetizer
Cons: poor service, inedible food
