Tie the corset and rustle the bustle: Lifestyles of days gone by are captured and preserved at this gem of a museum..
What to Expect
You can't get a good idea of how Richmonders used to live simply by going through Grandma's attic. That's why the Valentine Museum, tucked away in downtown Richmond, puts it all into perspective--one quick tour proves that our city's history is glorious. The main museum features clothing, toys, collectibles and other snippets that color a picture life gone by--the old Miller & Rhodes sign is even here, as is a collection of photos of the city that will enthrall longtime residents.
Don't Miss
Check out the "Signs of the Times" room, which displays vintage neon signs. This museum also boasts the largest textile collection in the South. Top off your visit with a tour of the 1812 Wickham House next door to the museum. The house used to belong to a prominent Richmond attorney and gives an insider's view to an elitist's lifestyle in historical Richmond.
