Exceptional Experience. Finding a good spa is like finding a good husband; you get a few duds until you find the right one. I tried every overpriced mediocre spa in Richmond because "everyone goes there." I had yet to find a spa that matched my standards until now. Although located in an ordinary strip of businesses along Patterson Avenue in the West End, SpaTaneity is anything but ordinary. It's Asian flair meets you at the door with the little statues and follows inside. It is lit by candles only and wafts of aromatherapy meet you at the door. The calming sounds of music and waterfalls lull you into a calm state before receiving a treatment.

When I scheduled my appointment, I originally booked a European facial, but ended up with the Signature. Boy was I glad that I did. While my face was being masked (a number of times), my feet and hands were treated to a message and mitts with hot stones. More importantly, unlike other spas that perform "European facials" (although I beg to differ), my neck and shoulders were thoroughly attended to. I was so relaxed that I hated to go to work; in fact, I thought about calling off and using the excuse that I was being held hostage (by a spa, of course). After I made it off the table, I paid the bill and immediately scheduled a manicure and pedicure; the spa is immaculate, no sign of the contaminated spa baths that seem to be pervasive in Richmond. Even more importantly, the owner did not try to sell me overpriced products--quite unusual for the industry.

SpaTaneity is a wonderful respite from the rest of the world.
