I wanted to lick the plate.
Cafe Rustica is a small, cozy spot in the sometimes sleepy downtown area of Richmond. Being New York transplants, we went to the restaurant hoping to get a good meal at a reasonable price. We got that and more. We ordered the tapas plate with manchego pie, olives and roasted red peppers. It came with a side of fresh breads that were made that morning. So tasty. We both ordered roasted fish with veggies and rice. I practically licked the plate. the fish was tender but moist, well seasoned and beautiful when it arrived. The vegetables were just right - not hot mush and not tooth breakers. Even the wine tasted great and paired nicely with the meal. We felt like we were in the Village again in NYC having a wonderful meal at a cute little spot.
The only drawback is the slow service but a good meal not fried or smothered in some mystery gravy is worth the wait.
