Poor food, poor service. Food is way too salty, service is poor and uncaring. When I got the fried Calamari it was inedible due to the salt. I asked the waitress to bring another. The owner returned with the same plate and said "Thats how it is".

I just got up and left. I will never eat there again.

Favorite restaurant in Richmond. I have been going to Edo's Squid for a long time. At first I was a little put off by the service and the loud space, but the food brought me back and continues to bring me back. I think the service has definitely gotten better over the years, and the crowded atmosphere is part of the charm for me. Every year for our anniversary my boyfriend and I consider a couple of restaurants where we can celebrate but we always end up choosing Edo's because it's just so delicious :)

Good meal. This is a small, hole in the wall type of place. I thought the food was very good, especially the rockfish and pasta carbonara. The reviewers that say it is salty DO have a point. A little less salt would be good. I think whoever is cooking has a higher salt tolerance than most and doesn't realize that he or she is putting too much in. Just ask for a little less salt or no salt and add your own as needed if you are concerned.

It is a very busy place. Even with reservations, you may have to wait unless you are getting there at 5:30. There's not really a good place to wait either. People just hang out on the stairs. Personally, I would go early or late because while I like this place, I don't like it enough to wait on a dark staircase.

Good food, Horrible service. The food is great, but not necessarily worth the wait or the abominable service.

Who Knows?. I really can't give a review of how the food is, but I can tell you that the treatment you will get here is terrible. I have tried to eat at Edo's twice - granted I didn't make a reservation - but one time it was 5:30 on a Thursday night. Anyhow, both times I went up the cramped stairs into the crowded restaurant and waited for someone, anyone, on their staff to greet me. I have no idea who was in charge or who was the host. There were people standing everywhere waiting to be acknowledged. I have never experienced anything like it. Both times I left after waiting for about 10 min. So, the food may be fantastic, but I'll never go back to find out. Edo's - two strikes and you are OUT!

If only I could talk to Edos. Made reservations two weeks in advance for my daughter's 21st bday. Been to Edos several times when in town. Always loud and crowded, which I've overlooked in the past because the food is OK, but this time was ridiculous. Waited 20 min just to speak to the hostess who was too busy clearing tables. Told that we would have to wait another 30 min. Talked with young person closest to management-type. Told that this is the way it is as we looked at several empty, uncleaned tables in front of us. Not a single apology or conciliatory remark -just excuses. I was pissed at this don't give a damn attitude and took my family to another resturant where we spent $400.

So, what's the point of taking reservations?

I'll will never return to this establishment because of this experience and the attitude of the staff. I would never recommend Edos to anyone. The food is good (I didn't say great) but certainly not worth the hassle.

Besides being horrendously mismanaged, the place is dirty and in certain violation of city fire laws.

PS. Had to give one star to publish.

FOOD IS TOO SALTY. STAFF UNACCOMMODATING. Mehh... Methinks this place is just OK. I had been set up for a great experience and the most fabulous seafood that could be found in all of Richmond, Virginia. Expectations were high but it was a huge let down considering my experience at Edo's. I'll let you judge...

My boyfriend and I decided to check out Edo's Squid because of the rave reviews online and from the hotel concierge suggestions. We started at the bar while waiting for our table. The bartender was no help in choosing a quality chianti in the 30 dollar price range. He could not describe any of the Italian wines listed and seemed somewhat belittling. We were rescued by the host who seated us promptly. At our table, waitress recommended a fabulous Chianti. We followed up with the broccolini and squid salad appetizers. In short, the broccolini with pine nuts and garlic could make a believer out of any anti-vegetable child. The squid salad was not memorable but decent enough to satisfy.

However, the real kicker was in the disappointing entrees. My boyfriend ordered the medium rare hanger steak with marinara pasta while I had the rockfish with olive oil, garlic, and pine nut pasta. When the waitress brought our dishes, I was ecstatic to see how beautiful the dishes looked but little did i know that looks would be deceiving. The steak seemed seared beautifully and the baked rockfish was seeping with juices. I took one bite of the rockfish and it was entirely TOO SALTY! Normally, I would dilute the saltiness but all I had was salty pasta topped with mushy garlic and pine nuts. I had to ask my bf for a second opinion. He took a bite and immediately reacted with a sour face.

We almost never send food back but this situation was a no brainer. My bf requested that the waitress to return the dish. She came back to our table saying the restaurant had found nothing wrong and would NOT remove the item from our bill. Her exact words were that " I cannot remove a perfectly good dish..." It was disgusting and I told her that I would not replace the rockfish. I will not return or recommend this restaurant considering how they handled the situation. It seems like Edo's is great for the hypertension lover. After writing my review, I noticed that others on yelp also remarked about the OVERLY SALINE dishes and had to come back to add these closing remarks. So there you have it!!

Good Italian and Good Seafood. I went with 2 friends. After you get past the steep climb up what appears to be a back door stairwell and go past the broom and dust pan on the door, you burst into dining room with nice small bar, small tables, and a few longer tables in middle surrounded by brick walls. Call ahead or you’ll sit at the bar for 15 minutes waiting for a table on weekdays and lots more on weekends. The natives are friendly and it is nice to catch up with real people.

We had a wonderful 2004 Barolo which we opened at the bar and enjoyed with the meal. Excellent bread greeted us at the table with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The starter Squid in white wine, garlic, arugula and pine nuts was excellent. The arugula salads had olive oil, pine nuts, and a generous supply of shaved high quality parmesan. My friends had a generous portion of Gray Tile Fish and I had sautéed Soft Shell Crabs in olive oil, pepper, and garlic. The food was well prepared, seasoned, and hot. Mine came with wonderful pasta and marinara sauce. My friends had the garlic and oil which they said was excellent. We finished with tiramisu which was dense and flavorful. They used quality mascarpone cheese and didn’t cut it with whipped cream. The cocoa powder was thick and had a bite.

The waiter service to our table seemed a bit patchy, but not bad. A little more attention would have been nice. The extra help was solid and made up for some mistakes by circling back on the waiter. I kept hoping for pepper grinder over the salt and pepper shakers on the table. In general the kitchen is kicking out some 5+ start food and staff will not dump it in your lap. Considering the prices, the food is bargain. I’d go back in more often if I lived nearby. It is definitely worth the trip even it is just to say “you’d never imagine what a great restaurant I found behind broom and dust pan in Richmond.”
