Attn: Veggie lovers.
I was here for the lunch buffet which had an emphasis on the veg dishes for the first time..No restaurants nearby really care about customers who are vegetarians (may be because they are relatively small in number). Food was awesome. I was told that Tuesdays are going to be veg specials at curry house,. I liked the clean presentation of the buffet too.
I would strongly recommend.
The worst,unhygenic,ill mannered place.
you feel like throwing up eating at this place. I unfortunately gave a catering order here once and had the worst experience ever, just stay away from this place.
there are couple of other indian restuarants near by malabar and anokha, which are far better, and i guess need not be even compared to this unhygenic place
Worst food..... I happen to have the worst Indian Food ever. Service is pathetic. Server didn't even know what are raisins, so go figure. This is what happens when you have a thambi to cook north indian dishes. Please stay away from this place.
2 out of 10. A restaurant should have atleast one of these: good food or ambience or service. This restaurant has none. The chef probably has never eaten good food in his life, otherwise he wont be serving what he cooks. Age old interiors, and the service sucls. The bar seems to be ok. I dont care whether they do jazz or kareoke, if you need good food when you are hungry, this is not the place. I wonder how they are getting by, for the menu is way overpriced for the taste they provide.
Great food!.
I had tried Indian food about 3 times previously at places everyone said was the best place in RIC. Well, I hated it.
I've enjoyed everything I've ever ordered at Curry House - Chicken69, Tandoori shrimp, chicken Makhani, and any dosa, especially the onion masala dosa rava. In fact, when I go out there, I always bring food for my husband - he LOVES it.
Since everything is made fresh it can take a bit longer from the kitchen, but that is understandable. Sometimes I have had problems with servers and language issues, but they have a manager now who speaks English very well. Also, there are two great bartenders who do take great care of you at the bar.
Overall, it's a great dining experience.
Setting the record straight.
I really don't know what the heck any of the last 2 people are talking about. I have been going there regularly for the past 12 months and I can list the following attributes that I have seen and experienced at the Curry House.
1) All of the staff are courteous, friendly, polite and quick to seat customers or carry take-out to peoples cars.
2) There is "no one" who works there that is remotely close to teenage nor do they have the personality of a college frat boy.
3) I have had Rava Masala Dosa and the Masala Dosa and both dishes needed to be shared with my friends or taken home in a goody bag. To think of it I had to share the lamb chops and any rice dish as well.
4) The following lite fair is to die for: WINGS, Chili Chicken, Roast Chicken.
5) The food needs to be kept fresh and this is not McDonalds so don't expect a happy meal price.
6) Happy Hour from I think 3or4 to 7:30 daily you can get a plate of wings on a bed of onions, green peppers and carrots for less than 2 bucks.
7) Every Thursday there is a nice wine tasting with "TootsweetJazz" playing in the background and after the band shuts down they turn it over to Karaoke.
I think with the downturn in the economy other competing restaurants in the area are trying to turn business away from here. So SHAME on them if it is true. Stop in and see for yourself and make your own judgement.
Still don't like it, but it's slightly better..
First of all, I am not affiliated with any Indian restaurant. I went back to Curry House last weekend because I was in the area and was hungry for some Indian food. I thought I'd give it a chance. Fortunately, the guy to whom I refered in my previous review was not there.
This time, the service was quite good, but the food was still mediocre (by the way, this was the lunch buffet, not off the menu). The goat, chicken, and dal were all really tomato-ey tasting...more so than any tomato based Indian dish should be.
The sambar was excellent, and the chicken biryani was good too.
One thing that was quite annoying was that it was only about half full, and they kept running out of plates, dishes, and silverware, but in fairness, it was about 2:00 and they probably had a busy lunch that day.
Farv, I do not go to Indian restaurants for wings, chili chicken, wine tastings, happy hour, or kareoke. I go for good Indian food. If they have those other things, then that's just fine, but it doesn't make up for mediocre food.
Again, I am in no way affiliated with any Indian restaurant. I encourage people to go try any place...maybe it will suit your palate.
Unhealthy Food. Last night I order Masala Dosa, I must tell everyone who is trying to go there for the first time or visiting again..THINK about it. Reason - it was stale. Specially the coconut chutney was stinking. I had throw it out. Can't understand how could they serve such food which will affect someone's health. Shame!
Great for trying wine. I've never eaten Indian food, but have been interested lately in trying out different wine, as I tend to normally stick with what I know. A few friends mentioned that the Curry House now offers $2 glasses of wine on Thursday nights, so I checked it out with them. I have now been several times and have really enjoyed the selection of wine, the atmosphere, and the music (live jazz band on select weeks). And you just can't beat $2 for a full glass of wine.
Stinking food, please avoid....
I ordered Gobhi Manchurian, Veg Masala, Malai Kofta, Naan and Rice.
Gobhi Manchurian : Lots of salt, tomato
Veg Masala : Cardamom fry would have been better name
Malai Kofta : Smelling like Medicine
Rice : Hard, under cooked.
Naan : only thing I could actually eat.
If you are with kid, you should tell in advance that you need all the serving for your kid too otherwise you need to keep asking for plate, water, spoon ..
They even packed a gobhi Manchurian, seeing us very unhappy. Even that was bad.
