never going back again!. We just visited Caliente for the first time- and it was definitely the last time. We thought we would try something different, but our experience was such a disappointment that we won't be making a second trip. First, the lighting is so dim, that we couldn't really read the menu or see the food we actually ordered. We chose the black bean quesadilla for the appetizer, and it was so so. I had the the mesquite pork chops and for some reason there was a burnt fish taste to it, the braised greens looked like they were from a can and smelled rotten. My boyfriend chose the jerk platter and the chicken was pretty spicy but didn't have any taste other than charred. The rice was cold and too sweet for taste. The service was pretty good, and although I sound like I am such a negative Nancy; I was pleased with our waitress. We ended up taking our food to go after a few bites and went home and ordered Chinese food.
Never Again!.
We went here to try something different and we were sooo disappointed! The 'special' we ordered was sooo SPICY! At no point was it indicated that the meal would be that spicy, I ate about 2 bites of my entree and couldn't go any further, however I was advised it wouldn't be taken off my bill and I would have to pay full price for another meal. The
side items' served with the meal were unrecognizable sans the white rice. Terrible food, horrible customer service-NO THANKS!
Editorial Review. Spice-based eatery offers fusions of Cajun, Caribbean, South Carolina low country, Southwestern and Thai dishes all on one menu.
Different menu. The menu if different from most restaurants in Richmond. I have never had a meal I didn't enjoy. Good service, too. I only wish they served bread with the salads.
Food was terrible. The food I ate at this restaurant was terrible. I ordered a po' boy and it was tough. I ended up not finishing it because I disliked it so much- and I was really hungry too.
Best restaurant in the Fan.
We go to Caliente just about every week. The specials are always fresh, creative and , most importantly, delicious. The stuffed jalapeno poppers are great because they are fresh jalapenos, which means that they are HOT jalapenos. The pina colada bread pudding and the frozen chocolate goo are the best desserts anywhere in town! The sandwiches are not your run of the mill bar food. In short, we love this place!
CALIENTE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!
Poor food quality. I looked forward to eating at Calient. Unfortunately the food quality and taste was poor. I ordered the coconut crusted shrimp and only ate one. The batter was thick, gooey, and overwhelming with the flavor of coconut. It tasted as if they had dumped imitation coconut into the batter instead of using real coconut. My sister ordered the jalopeno poppers which were ok but very very hot, which I liked but not expected since so many jalopeno poppers are served mild in hotness. A big disappointment overall.
