Seattle-based coffee chain lures caffeine addicts with upscale roasts, caramel frappuccinos, shaken iced teas and an extra shot of trendiness..
In Short
For many, getting their daily jolt of java has become a daily morning ritual, and the cardboard cup with its infamous green label is the close companion of every coffee aficionado. Busy baristas work seamlessly behind the bar, juggling orders for their strongly-brewed drips and signature hot and cool beverages. While providing a wide selection of coffee specialties, pastries and various coffee related goods, patrons are invited to settle down in comfy armchairs and enjoy their favorite brews amid the chatter of the laidback yet caffeinated crowd.
Starbucks perfection. Granted you have to be a fan of Starbucks in the first place, but this new VCU location brings civilization to downtown Richmond. Stop in, order your favorite beverage and pastry and be treated to the exquisite experience that is Starbucks. Sit down to a copy of the New York Timesatch the traffic go by on Broad Street from your comfortable seat. If this location can be described in two words, it's cozy and comforting. An oasis in an urban desert.
Mean staff people. I always order a Venti Americano in a Tall cup. Granted, this is complex & confusing, but an Americano is expresso plus water & they ask you how much water you want. I like it strong so I just say put it in a regular cup. Well, it just so happens that if you say "give me a Tall with 4 shots" it costs about a buck more. Believe it or not, the staff at 1500 Broad St. (at Lombardy) refused to sell me a Venti and insisted that I need to pay for extra shots just because I asked for a smaller cup. I said fine & went up to Cary St. where the staff had no problem giving me my usual Venti in a Tall cup.
