Statewide was contracted to service our hot water heater, which was both leaking and not holding temperature properly. The man they sent arrived around 11 a.m., which is between the 8-noon timeframe, but I was specifically told I was the first call. Well, did not matter, because the man they sent was not a plumber and knew nothing about hot water heaters. He said he couldn't see a leak -- of course the cement in the garage under the heater was wet, you could see the area where water had dried, and the carpet next to the heater was soaking. Apparently, since it wasn't gushing and acutally flooding the garage, this genious didn't see it. Next, he had no tools -- NONE. Never opened up the heater to look inside, never did anything but call Statewide and tell me since he couldn't see a leak, he was gone. I paid $85 for this wonderful service. This guy was probably the dumbest person I have ever encountered on a service call. I went to Home Depot and a salesman explained what to do for the leak -- it needed a new washer/gasket on the faucet. So I fixed that myself, and then had a friend in the HVAC business stop by on the weekend to open up the heater and fix the temperature problem. It took him about 30 mins, but you know what, this Statewide company should really be ashamed. If that is how they need to make money, so be it, but maybe the bad economy will put them under -- we can only hope.
