Bon Air >Ruchee Unique Indian Cuisine
What Happened to Ruchee??.
Just last week, my husband and I went to Ruchee - our favorite Indian restaurant in the region. We hadn't been for a long time and right away noticed the different staff. Saw the menu and it had changed some. So we guessed it had been taken over by new management.
Ordered Lamb Biryani - Ruchee once made THE VERY BEST - but not anymore. It was very average. The rice was mealy. Maybe 5 small lumps of lamb.
The waitress rarely came by. We would have ordered more wine but she never came back after delivering our meal except when we asked for the check even though we were the only customers in the restaurant.
Sad to see it go. It was once a really fine restaurant.
Excellent all around. Savory Tikka Masala and wonderful Samosas. Service is quick and friendly. The quality is noticeably better than other Indian restaurants I've tried. I used to go to India Garden and Grill, but they closed down. Ruchee turned out to be way better. They are who I turn to for great indian food. They have a Ruchee Express downtown also, on Main street near VCU. They are equally satisfying and friendly. Very recommended.
Yes, New owner recently. Food is very good, and they will work with you if miss something from the old menu / owner
Ruchee used to be good....but it's not bad.. The last time my wife and I went to Ruchee was some time ago. (Perhaps a year---Yes...I'm late with a review) We used to go all the time. We didn't realize that the restaurant was sold. It's my understanding that the previous owner went back to India...or maybe it was a family member. (not sure) Nonetheless, we attempted to order and noticed that the menu wasn't really the same and that some of our favorites were not on it. That's Okay...we are up for trying something different. Wow. The service was not very good and the food was absolutely NOT as good as before. Such a shame too because the 'original' Ruschee was one of very few restaurants we would be loyal to in Richmond. Even to this day when I want Indian food, I mention to my wife that we should go back. It's always the same reply. "No, we don't need to. go there." I agreed....although I may give it another chance someday.
It used to be good?!.
Shalom! I used to eat lunch almost every day @ Ruchee's when I worked in the Boulders Office Park. I loved the food and service. This is a restaurant where I saw native Indians eat. That says something! I have not been in about one year. Now, I am reading reviews that they are not good as they once were.
I am Vegan and this is why I went because they had non-dairy sauces. I hope that is not true because i have recommended and taken several people to the restaurant. Maybe, they switched cooks. I hope for the best for Ruchee's in the future.
Not what it was. I agree with the writer in April 2008. We used to get take out but last few times it was just not the same. Baigan Bharta was full of crunchy cloves or peppercorns and it had lots of undercooked peas. It was also greasier than before and just not enjoyable at all. We do hold everything accountable to the standards of Malabar Restaurant so our expectations are high.
Used to be WONDERFUL - NOT anymore :(.
We used to go to Ruchee in the past and we used to be blown away by the amazing food, service and in general the coziness of the place. We stopped by recently after a year of break (for lunch buffet)- and the experience was more than disappointing. The food was barely edible, my chicken actually bad more "goop" than meat, things were either over or underdone, and their amazing rice pudding was now rice in sweet water, literally :( The waiter kept running to our table every 2 minutes, trying to take our plates away despite of us not being done. The bottoms of the straws were pinched so we'd drink less soda...
All in one it was a disappointing experience and when we paid we figured out why. Apparently the ownership of the place changed over the past year - they tried to say that it's for the better, it's now much better quality, better service, etc....Well I don't know..All I know is that this has been my favorite place but I now have no desire whatsoever to go back there. If anyone figures out what happened to the previous owners (did they open a new restaurant, and WHERE) post it please!! Lol! Their food and service was beyond amazing and especially after this disappointing experience I'd be willing to go anywhere after them!! :)
Indulge your ethnic food desire.. You'll enjoy Ruchee if you like Indian cuisine. The staff and cooks and takers of phone orders all do a great job. Everything our friends and we have tried has been excellently prepared and delicious. We find we need our ' Indian food fix' now and Ruchee takes care of us. The food is fragrant and tasty and spiced mild to HOT as to your fancy and the staff is prompt and friendly.
Journey Back Home. Within minutes of entering the gateway of Ruchee, I felt like I was back home in India. The aromas, the grand service, and family atmosphere truly made a great first impression on me. But the best was still yet to come. The dinner was sensuous with the correct amount of spices for everything. The art of cooking had not been lost here. After an exquisite dinner, I was convinced by the waiter to have a 'mango pie a la mode.' God himself could not have made a better dessert. In essence, there is a phenomenal Indian Restaurant now in Richmond that I know I will return to because now, its home. Thanks Ruchee.
