Almost Your Mama's Kitchen ...
by tattooedmusicmonkey
I've lived in Richmond my entire life and have sampled a good majority of what this city has to offer food-wise. Comfort is hands down the best restaurant in the River City. Not a birthday goes by that I don't find myself here. From it's scrumptious mashed potatoes to the delectable squash casserole, we are talking perfection here folks. And where else in this city can you get a whiskey list that tops 30+?! Sure, you will be paying more for mac n' cheese than you would out of a box ... but, isn't that the case with most eating out experiences? Stick to Golden Corral if these Southern sides are a bit pricey for you, topped off with a searing slice of vibrant city life. Comfort is well worth the wait and money spent.
- Pros: killer food, great waitstaff, fully belly in the end
- Cons: you might wait a bit and parking can get snarly
What EXACTLY is comforting about a $40 bowl of macaroni and cheese?

DO NOT be another FOOL that will pay $17 for a piece of fried catfish and some slapped on sides that anyone with half a brain, a deep frier and $2 could make. A little math - how many pieces of catfish can you buy from your neighborhood grocery store with $17? If you said, oh, about SEVENTEEN youuuu're right! . But, if you must go, do NOT go with over 7 people! They force you to do family style and make you decide on 4 side dishes - even if you have 14 people. Hey lets make the beginning of the meal as difficult as getting a bunch of people to divide up a bill at the end of the meal. Yay! Then, if you want another side they charge you PER PERSON for an 'extra' side - totaling for us to almost forty dollars. Now the kicker - our vegetarian friend was charged TWELVE DOLLARS for an EMPTY PLATE! Ywes, 'tis true, they actually carried it out like it had food on it and presented it with the rest of the dishes. His 'dinner' of sides (their ONLY option for vegetarians) did not even allow him the option to choose his on sides - even though they are PRE MADE sides. When I suggested to the manager on duty that if you drop the 'per person' we essentially paid almost FORTY dollars for a bowl of macaroni and asked if they were proud to bring an empty plate to the table and then bring a bill, they got an attitude with me. Then when I mentioned the fact that I had waited for a beer because the bartender was filling up coffee mugs of beer for the kitchen they got a bigger attitude with me. And when their only excuse for forcing people to do family style was that they had kitchen capacity issues and I suggested that perhaps 'space' wasn't the only capacity issue back there, they asked me to leave. Hey, people hate the truth. Come on Richmond - I know your food options can get a little sparse at times - but don't be stupid enough to let this place go on ripping people a comforting new ***hole.
- Pros: you can be nostalgic about your dead southern gramma, if you had one
- Cons: everything else
High Prices, but makes a good experience

Comfort has a great atmosphere and a wonderful menu. They take great southern classics and put in a swanky twist. Good portions. You will be pleased with the restaurant, but maybe not the price.
- Pros: great atmosphere, great service, great food.
- Cons: pricey
