What People Are Saying About Morton's The Steakhouse

In Short – With its dark wood details, celebrity photos and tuxedo-clad waiters, this upscale steakhouse chain has the air of a posh men's club. Service is professional and discreet, with bartenders making a mean martini. Dinners begin with a waiter-driven cart laden with fresh vegetables, live lobster and cuts of steak; customers choose from porterhouse, rib-eye, bone-in prime rib and more. Side dishes are traditional and enormous, from baked potatoes and creamed spinach to steamed broccoli with hollandaise.

Almost best steak, but not best

by luvtodineandtravel at Citysearch

Went here last weekend. It was an "above average" all around. I only give truly superb restaurants a 5 star rating. We were seated promptly, our server was very friendly, I enjoyed her very much. The wine selection was pretty comprehensive. I'm a stickler on the correct stemware for the wine, and their stemware was appropriate. The big lump of bread they give you is fantastic! I almost ate the whole thing single handedly. My poor husband got the short end of the stick on that one. If you have read any of my other reviews, I always try the caesar salad because that is to me, an important review criteria. The caesar was wonderful, and it takes a lot for me to say that. It wasnt the best in the country, but certainly very good. I got the filet, and it was cooked to my liking, very good. I get steak every week on my date night with my husband, so I eat a lot of it. This was my SECOND best steak in town. Sensi was still my FAVORITE steak. Highly recommended. Ambience here is nice and dim, which I like. My husband got the flame grilled spicy steak and HIS was out of this world. Very good. Overall, its great, would go back in a heartbeat. However, for the price, I would rather go to Sensi. I would spend a tad less, and get a better steak.

  • Pros: caesar, bread, service, wine
  • Cons: pricey

Enjoyed it!!!!

This is the first time I've been to Mortons in years. It was just as good as I remembered, if not better. One steak came out medium rare, it was ordered medium well. They gave us a free desert for the error, which was very nice of them. The food was excellent and the service is top notch (see next comment) BUT The waiter seemed more interested in making conversation with my fiance than doing his job, by the end of the night that was getting old. Reminded me of the SNL skit at the Italian restaurant. Other than that It was a very romantic spot and I would recommend it.

  • Pros: Valet parking, romantic setting, excellent food
  • Cons: A bit pricey

Very overated

by bpmk at Citysearch

THe steaks order medium-all three served well, very noisey on a wednesday-difficult to carry on conversation. One in party had crab cakes-they were very good. For the price and the marketing hype they need to change attitudes around to live up to a GOOD reputation. Waitress forgot one desert order and foor was served warm to cold-not hot. The potatoes-onions were burned. We must have picked a bad night but will not happen again.

  • Pros: crab cakes, bar
  • Cons: steaks overcook, sides small, noisey

Outrageous prices

by jeroen at Citysearch

My wife and I have eaten at all the top restaurants in town, and Morton's certainly belongs in that category. We don't mind dropping some money on a nice dinner, but the prices at Morton's are simply ridiculous. At most other top restaurants around Richmond, entrees are in the mid-$20 range. At Morton's it's more like $40. We skipped appetizers, had two entrees, one glass of wine, one coffee, shared desert, and it cost us $168. This is a top of the line restaurant, but it's not better than the other top restaurants in town and not worth the money.

  • Pros: quality food, service, atmosphere

Excellent Steakhouse

by vaguy at Citysearch

I have eaten at all of the area's steakhouses, but Morton's exceeds all of them principally because it was constructed so you can carry on a decent conversation in a normal tone of voice. Its expense makes it an expense account restaurant, but the food is good and the service is excellent. My only criticism is the "show & tell" routine the waiter goes through, showing you the cuts of meat. It added nothing and as it was repeated at nearby tables, it got tiresome and annoying.

  • Pros: quiet atmospher, good food, good service
  • Cons: , gigantic portions
