Editorial Review for Dia Beacon – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
The space--a former printing factory renovated by artist Robert Irwin and the architectural firm Open Office--sprawls over 300,000 square feet. Most of its galleries have loft-like proportions and unbelievable natural light. Whether it's a zigzagged row of Dan Flavin neons that unfolds like a Jacob's Ladder, or Richard Serra's voluminous spirals of steel, Dia features notable single-artist displays. This is a one-of-a-kind place to experience minimal and conceptual art on the East Coast.

I went to the Dia:Beacon last weekend, with very little expectations, and had a fabulous time! I was completely blown away by the installations, particularly by the Richard Serra pieces. If you are a fan of Modern Art and have not been here, this is a real must-see! You will never find this kind of art work in the galleries in Manhattan because there's just not enough space. As the museum is lit by natural light, it's important to go on a nice day. We spent a good 3 hours there and just managed to see the entire museum. I will definitely be back!
Pros: fabulous Modern Art!, great gardens, not crowded
Cons: Distance from NYC
