Great stop for a long days traveling!. My wife and I were heading back to New York from Florida and Richmond was our halfway point. We stopped at the Sporting News Grill and we were pleasantly surprised by our experience. The beer was cheap and the service was excellent. Our server was on point and he made sure we had another nice cold beer when needed. The food was great too. I had the Steak and Cheese sandwich which was great and m wife had the Chicken Caesar Salad. The food was delicious and had great portions. Next year when we go back to Florida, we are definitely making Richmond our halfway point and eating at the Sporting News Grill again!

Totally NOT worth the wait. Wow, undoubtedly some of the worst service I've EVER experienced.

I'm in town on business and staying in the hotel where the restaurant is located. I popped in this evening for a quick bite, or so I thought. My server took my drink order immediately and returned promptly with my iced tea. I had checked out the menu in my room so I knew what I wanted. I ordered an appetizer and a burger. 5 minutes went by, then 10 and before I knew it I had spent a quarter of an hour waiting for the appetizer. I suppose I should also mention that my server hadn't even dropped by the table to offer me a refill on my iced tea (or at the very least to check my pulse and make sure I hadn't starved to death). Finally, she brought my appetizer and I politely thanked her. She said you're welcome and left, again without offering me a refill. I was starving at this point so I wolfed down my appetizer and began the wait for the burger. And quite a wait it was. At this point it had been about 25 minutes since I placed my dinner order. I had given up hope of ever getting my glass refilled, as my server was now avoiding my part of the dining area. She wouldn't even make eye contact. I think she realized I had been waiting a while but really didn't seem concerned enough to actually do anything about it, or even come over and apologize. And still I was waiting. Seasons changed outside the window, pages flew off the calendar, I had grown a full beard even though I came in clean-shaven...you get the point. At long last, and this is no exageration, AT THE 40 MINUTE MARK, my burger and fries were delivered to my table...not by my server, but by what I must assume was the restaurant manager. Clearly she knew I had been waiting an obscenely long time and they expected trouble. But that's not my style. I was polite and non-combative and waited for her to do the right thing (i.e. apologize, offer to comp my appetizer, give me a free dessert, anything for the love of God). But she just gave me my 40 minute burger and went on her way. She did at least notice that my glass was empty and brought me another iced tea.

As for the food, it was average. Nothing special, just typical sports bar fare. But you can get the same basic food at Applebee's in less than half the time. My advice: skip the Sporting News Grill.
