Awful and disgusting. Fly in my soup.. This restaurant is only getting one star because I couldn't give a lower rating. When my friends and I dined at Mom's Siam it was filthy. My silverware had hair wrapped in it and there was a fly in my soup. I understand things happen from time-to-time at restaurants, but the manager never came to apologize for the disgusting fly in my soup. A matter of fact no one seemed to care. I was not offered a refund. The situation was handled very poorly. I do not plan to eat here again.
Poor Management amd Service.
My husband and I went here last Friday. He ordered a curry dish, but while eating it noticed there were cashews in it... and he's allergic to nuts! Cashews were NOT on the menu! Thankfully, he did not have a reaction so we're pretty sure he didn't actually eat a cashew. We called over a waitress who brought us a menu and sure enough, there was no mention of any nuts in any of the curry dishes. We asked her to take the dish away to which she replied, "Do you want me to box it up for you to take home?" Um, no!
We told the waitress she should alert the chef and manager because there really should be a warning on any dishes that have nuts in them. This can be a mild to deadly allergy. Thankfully, it turned out okay for my husband, but we very easily could have ended up in the emergency room. I actually overheard one waitress tell another that the chef said he always puts cashews in his curry. Well, we didn't know that!
On top of everything, they tried to charge us for his meal! When we asked our waitress why we were being charged, she said she was unaware we had a problem with it. To be fair, it was a different waitress who we spoke to about the allergy because ours wasn't around, but you'd think she would have told our waitress what was going on. She took the check back and after awhile returned saying they would only take off half of his meal price. We just paid the bill and left.
****Bottom line: Not putting a note in the menu about dishes containing nuts is irresponsible.
average Thai with a great patio.
I live right behind the place and I've only had it 4 times. It's just not very good. If it were really good, I'd have it twice a week. It's expensive and the portions are small. It's not as fresh or flavorful as other Thai I've had.
If you've never had Thai, you'll probably love it. If you love Thai, like me, you'll probably be disappointed.
Terrible place for large group parties.
unforgettable experience - in a bad way!
I was a part of a large group and although we waited about an hour to get food on the table, that wasn't the worst of it! Waitresses were OK overall. However the owner added 3 alcoholic drinks to our tab and wouldn't admit his fault. When we disputed the charges, he threatened to call the police! We ended up paying only what we consumed (this process took about 1 hour!!!!) but the owner informed us that he's going to withhold all but $5 of the 18% gratuity we HAD to pay to cover for the drinks we never ordered therefore refused to pay for. The owner stiffed the waitstaff so that $5 was all they were getting as a tip.
If you decide to go, review your bill carefully!
Tasty thai, nice patio. I eat here every now and again and I always enjoy it. I've tried about 5 Thai places in Richmond and I think that it has the best food in comparsion to the few I've tried. The food is great and the food prices are reasonable. The green curry is amazing and I have a hard time ordering anything else. The service is good, every time I go the same waiter is there (need to find out his name) and he has LOTS of personality. I love the patio and the upstaits eating area is nice, the downstairs area is so-so. The main cons are the expensive drinks (in the range of $5 for a tiny glass of wine) and the parking.
Excellent food and service. The food is consistently good. The wait staff is friendly, and the food always comes out quickly. The large patio offers plenty of outdoor tables to enjoy the Carytown atmosphere.
Great Thai, Great Bartender. I walked into Mom Siam not knowing it was a Thai restaurant. Great location, great food, great bartender. Very personable. I had the Drunken Noodles w/ beef. Spicy and very tasteful.
