Editorial Review for Islands – by Jennifer Schwartz

The Scene
With thatched umbrellas, photos of crashing waves, stuffed toucans and a soundtrack of twangy '60s surf-rock, it doesn't take a genius to figure out this chain's theme. Yep, it's beach, burgers and plenty of kitsch. The jovial atmosphere and service (not to mention a full-service bar) lures lunching business folk, beer-drinking college students and families with food-throwing toddlers.

The Food
Like the decor, the menu is a no-brainer--sandwiches, salads, fries and burgers. Served in a basket with fork and knife, thick beef patties come grilled to order with lettuce, tomato and any variety of extras. For a lighter bite, try one of the soft tacos. Filled with either fish or chicken, the wraps are inauthentic, but tasty. Yaki tacos are stuffed with teriyaki chicken, chives, pineapple and jack cheese. Whatever you order, don't forget the fries. These hand-cut, super-crispy sticks are addicting, especially when dipped in creamy ranch dressing.

When we first arrived we parked in the free parking garage which is directly behind the restaurant which has a backdoor entrance, which was very convenient. We were promtly sat and noticed how clean the place was kept which is very important when it comes to deciding where to have my meals. The food was very tasty and they give you a choice between beef, chicken and a vegitarian burger. Service was excellent too. I highly recommend eating at Islands as I always have a great experience there.

Don't go to an Islands to expect culinary masterpieces. Its a hyped up burger joint...but with really good burgers. They have regular beef burgers or chicken. Great toppings on each. They also have an assortment of pretty good appetizers. I would say the best part of Islands are their burgers and bartenders. Or at least at this location. If you're just killing time waiting for a booth, step up to the bar and order a drink. Any mixed drink will come out well. If your not sure, just ask to see what their favorite is, perhaps they'll open your eyes to a new concoction you hadn't thought about. Atmosphere is fun and light. Usually very packed, but its worth the wait. Park off Broadway, in the structure. Islands will validate your parking for you.

Pros: Great Burgers & Fries, Great Bartenders, Parking Validation

Cons: Long wait @ times
