What People Are Saying About Pomegranate

The Scene – Such a pretty place with faux Euro finishes, starched white tablecloths, oversize framed art prints and the inevitable Bottom exposed brick walls. Service is personalized and polished, but does all this make up for such petite portions? When the economy trims downward, business professionals expect more bang for their bucks. Pomegranate leaves them growling for moremuch more. – – The Food – Despite the portion size, the menu is creative and the food quality and details are impressive. Lunchtime Italian-inspired Frittata has plum tomatoes,…
Terrible service, good food but expensive

Service was EXTREMELY slow, and we were the first table and only 2 other tables came after we were there, so no excuse. It was a Friday night (it should have given me an indication that we were the only ones there at 7 pm). Server was not friendly and he did not seem very concerned about our experience at the restaurant. Example, when he asked how the desert was, was it worth the wait? (after 25 minute wait), I said it was "just ok", there was no response. Food was overall very good. Cheese appetizer was very tasty but for the price, the amount of cheese was very, very small. 3 european cheeses, some greens described as microgreens (but were just mixed greens) and a fig cut up. Comparably priced cheese plates at other fine restaurants are a lot more generous. The lamb chops served with wild mushroom risotto, and steak served with kale and sweet potato, were good, but very salty (course salt was used, big chunks still in food). The warm fresh (really?) berry with creme fresh desert came after a 25 minute wait(!) and it was ok, but expensive for the size. If the service would have been better, I might consider giving Pomegranate another shot. But I have read other reviews about bad service, so I know we were not alone. 18% gratuity was calculated on top of tax (not legal). I eat out a lot at fine dining restaurants, and for $100 for two people (above plus 2 glasses of wine), with the service we got and the appetizer and desert portions, the value was just not there. Beware, as of early September '08, restaurant's website is 5 years old (per the waiter). Would not recommend.
- Pros: Good food, nice ambiance
- Cons: Bad service, expensive-
Bad food

Expensive food and not good at all. Filet mignon was tough and tasted burnt, snapper was dry and tasted fishy, both were covered in a STICKY pomegranate reduction that didn't taste anything like pomegranate -- more like really thick chicken broth (i.e. bad flavor and texture). Glass of wine tasted like burnt rubber. Service was good and they were apologetic, but that didn't make up for the bad food. I've never had the experience of beingn repulsed by the food I've ordered.
Romantic and delicious!

My fiance took me to Pomegranate to celebrate my birthday. The atmosphere was romantic and cozy--dim lighting with individual candles on each table. We were seated promptly, and the service was excellent. I read up on the restaurant before we went and was cautious about the supposedly "petite portions" mentioned in the editorial review on this site, but our portions were actually quite large. The pumpkin puree appetizer was one of the best things I've ever tasted. I had a (huge!) pasta dish--fettucinne with fresh basil, tomatoes, etc. and he had a big steak. Our food was delicious, followed by creme brulee for dessert. Absolutely wonderful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a quiet, romantic evening.
- Pros: Wonderful ambience, excellent food
- Cons: Could be busy at lunch.
Great Find

Tried this spot for lunch recently... honestly must say it was the best lunch I've ever had. Strawberry Basil soup, Tenderloin Sandwich, and Creme Brulee for desert. It was divine. Very inventive creations. Our server was attentive and kind, and our meal arrived promptly. I really had no problems with the prices or the proportions. I left full and content. Simply delicious. You must try.
- Pros: delicious, inventive, friendly
surprisingly cosmopolitan

The menu is very varied, and all the combinations sounded so tempting. First courses were okay but the main courses were world class . . service was pleasant and prompt, maybe just a touch pretentious, but then it was worth it for the food. Desserts were light and delicious, not cheap, but really an evening to remember . . .
