Editorial Review for The White Dog – by Carter Trumbo
The Scene
Step down into this renovated shoebox-sized Fan restaurant for an evening of casual simplicity. Warm wooden booths, crisp white walls with oversize oil paintings sooth instead of overwhelm. Having the owner on premises at all times makes a difference. He sets the tone for superb, friendly service and provides that extra touch of attention that draws an appreciative professional crowd.
The Food
Simplicity reigns. Penne pasta has four different versions and a big salad can be beefed up with shrimp, chicken or grilled sirloin. Nightly seafood specials and a vegetarian plate of the day are hits with regulars. The tamarind sauce on the smoked London Broil is anything but boring and the sides of mashed potatoes or macaroni and cheese add a comforting touch. Desserts are made in-house--bread pudding arrived steaming hot and surrounded by a pool of caramel sauce with a jagged wedge of homemade Peanut Brittle jutting from the top.

Not a flaw in sight. The White Dog Resturant has a charming ambience. The owners are there to see that your experience is a good one. The paintings on the walls, done by Roslyn Pruitt, are wonderful. The music is well selected. The service is excellent. Whether I had the shrimp and gritts beautifully presented and delectable on the palette, the vegetarian special in a puff pastry that is like a treasure chest, or the carnivor special (thank you Max) which is so yummy that I wished I could druel, I found that I couldn't wait to come back and taste the next dish. The bread pudding is the best I have ever had. The prices are totally reasonable and my experiences have been delightful, decectible and delovely. By all means go and enjoy. I eat there every chance I get.
Pros: Ambience, Food, Service, totally wonderful experience

Nice atmosphere but the prices will keep me away. The food was not that good, especially compared to the price. Although it was nice to see some tweaks to regular comfort foods (I had macaroni and cheese as a side dish). Might be nice for a date where you are trying to impress with the size of the check. Make sure to grab the dog treats on your way out the door, but remember they're for dogs not people!
Pros: Nice ambience, good for a date.
Cons: Expensive, food not so great.
