Editorial Review for The Canal Club – by Patrick Rooney
The Scene
Located in one of the hottest areas downtown, the Canal Club is a great spot to hear a band, grab a beer or play a game of pool. The two-story building features an oak bar with an ususually large number of beers on tap, as well as the concert stage.
The Draw
Great regional and national bands set up shop right here. Bio Ritmo (every Thursday night), Fighting Gravity and the Pat McGee Band all gig here and love it. Also local funk kings, Groovespot, regularly play here. While most people wouldn't consider eating at most nightclubs, the Canal Club offers a large a la carte menu. Vegetable sides nicely complement the various cuts of steak, rotisserie chicken and sandwiches.

The Canal Club is the only real bar in Richmond that is actually a concert venue. It is a good showcase for local bands. This place has the best pa I have heard in a bar in this town.Unfotunately, the locals don't support local musicians. Some times the crowds are small for these shoes. On the other hand these guys bring in big shows that the bars can't handle,or afford.
Pros: ample parking, great staff, best sound in rich
