The Scene
You can't drive for 20 minutes without having to cross it. Flowing from prehistoric time through the heart of Richmond, the James River provides the area with unique recreational opportunities for everyone. Once arriving at one of the many parks located on its banks, you'll be amazed by the diversity of the river and the wildlife it attracts.
The Experience
Fish for smallmouth, largemouth and striped bass, walleye, catfish, shad, gar or any in a long list of species present. Watch hawks, cormorants, herons and eagles fly overhead. Hook up with a tubing, rafting, canoeing or kayaking expedition. Wade in the shallows, swim, explore islands and picnic on the banks. Nature trails abound, and there is a visitors' center; call for information about individual park locations, amenities and river conditions.
