The South's largest art school gallery impresses with the work of masters and students..
The Scene
Situated in Richmond's historic Fan District, the Anderson consists of eight galleries on three floors in an old brick building across the street from the university president's house. Director Ted Potter mixes exhibits of works by local and national artists while also giving exposure to talented faculty and staff. The emphasis is clearly on contemporary art with a broad range of media, including book design, sculpture, watercolors, prints and photographs.
About the Art
A surprisingly large permanent collection that includes impressions of Van Gogh's etching, "Portrait of Dr. Gachet," and photographs and prints from Daumier, Durer, Winslow Homer, Toulouse-Lautrec, Rembrandt, Renoir, William Wegman and Andy Warhol. And because the Anderson Gallery is part of VCU, students display here first. The best student art available and you get the chance to see or buy it first.
