Editorial Review for Regal Westhampton Theatre – by Patrick Rooney

The Scene
Like the Byrd, an old preserved theater with ornate decoration in the main theater. The smaller theater upstairs has a college classroom feel with a hint of attic.

On Screen
Art house, foreign, independents of note and small movies, usually British. You can always find an interesting film. Usually high quality.

Who's Watching
University faculty and hangers-on, arty types, movie editors, goateed men with a strange intensity of gaze and film aficionados (as opposed to movie-lovers). No blockbusters here.

Local Celeb Factor
More likely to see Mayor Tim Kaine or Patricia Cornwell than newscaster Gene Cox. Not your John Boy and Billy crowd.

Heart of the Avenues
Situated on the Avenues, makes for a perfect walk amidst the restaurants and shops.

When you want to just relax, take a date somewhere intimate, the I suggest going to Regal Westhampton. The atmosphere is simply wonderful and there is tons of places to just walk and enjoy with someone you love, or are trying to. Great movies, great people, and no reason to not go!

The Westhampton isn't as opulent as the Byrd Theater in Carytown, but it's not far behind. This moviehouse offers a refreshing break from the popcorn-and-soda-slinging giants; you might grumble at the sparse legroom, but you'll relish watching a quirky film in an old-fashioned theater.
