Self-inflicted punishment. My family & I have frequented Friendly's since I was a little girl. Unfortunately, the chain has done nothing but decline since the late '80's. Today's experience was so frustrating, that, as a family, we've decided that it will be our last. First of all, the cleanliness of the facility (Colonial Heights, VA locale) left much to be desired. My flip flops were sticking to the floor. We were sat quickly, because there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. Even so, we waited over an hour for our food! Not only is that infuriating for an adult, but very hard to explain to my hungry 2 year old. When we finally got our food, it was not as we'd ordered it. We asked the burger's bread not to be toasted, instead it was so hard, I had to request another bun. We asked for well-done burgers, but they were pink inside. My daughter's quesadilla was a sad excuse for edible food. It was over cooked and must have been sitting under a heating lamp for some time, because it was chewy & tough, instead of soft & cheesy. The hour-long wait annoyed me to no end. This store has always been ridiculously slow before, but we'd always kept coming back to see if it would improve. When the food arrived and was of such poor-quality and with so many mistakes, I'd had enough. I was angry that I would have to PAY MONEY for this experience. We will not return. I'm sorry I subjected my family to this self-inflicted punishment.

New England-based chain serves affordable diner food and ice cream treats in a homey, family-friendly atmosphere.. In Short
Friendly's opened its first location in 1935, and thanks to red vinyl booths and an old-time vibe, many of its 500-plus locations still feel rooted in that era. While nobody's ever mistook Friendly's signature ice cream for Ben & Jerry's, the restaurant does deserve acclaim for its Fribbles (extra-thick frappes) and inexpensive sundaes. Straightforward breakfast platters are served in the mornings only, while standard diner fare (tuna melts, beef burgers) is offered day and night.
