The Scene
The word "buffet" may conjure up images of third-rate offerings in a sterile, cafeteria-like setting, but the buffet at India K'Raja will change that perception. Besides the pungent odor of garam masala (hot spices) in the air, the festive Indian music playing and the traditional Indian dresses on display (and on sale in the restaurant) will put you in the mood. The reasonable prices make India K'Raja a good option for groups.
The Food
The warm, satisfying biryanis and curries are not what you'd expect from buffet food. The best Indian dishes including naan (a pita-like bread), pakoras (vegetable fritters), and rich desserts like kheer (rice pudding) are displayed neatly and bountifully at its West End location, making it a favorite for those who work in the bustling Innsbrook/Glen Allen area. For special occasions, special buffets are sometimes available with expanded offerings at a slightly higher price. There are always at least one or two entrees on the buffet for vegetarians as well. For dinner, the menu offers popular Indian favorites like eggplant bhartha (eggplant with spices) or Tandoori favorites (cooked in a special clay oven that gives dishes a unique flavor).
Make sure your fellow diners have some tolerance for spicy foods--even the mild dishes have a distinct kick to them. This is a great place to take the kids if you can convince them to try the exotic fare. Try the Indian beers including Lal Toofan (red storm) if you want a completely authentic experience.

Trying to find a good restaurant in Richmond is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, so we've limited our dining experience to lunch. My son and I tried this place for lunch during the weekday. While it was not bad, it was definitely not what we were used to. The vegetarian options were limited, there was no mango pudding for dessert and the chai tea I ordered was almost bitter. I noticed they didnt' t have tandoori chicken or chicken tikka masala (usually a staple) on the buffet either. Even the naan tended to be a little on the dry side although they did claim it was buttered. While it did slightly satsify my craving for Indian food, I probably wouldn't go here again. My packaged Trader Joe's Indian food tastes better than this.

Great Service. Worst food. I went there for a Monday Evening Buffet around 8 pm. The food was Old and stale. I wish I can take pictures and post it on here. I had to ask for fresh Nan to be made. Then the Sweets Ras Malai was actually spoilt. The spiced milk had turned sticky- Please beware of food here, you might get sick. And Exorbitantly expensive. NOT Recommended even as the last resort. Go to nearby McDonald, Taco Bell or Burger King to get your food for the moment, but avoid stale lousy food. If you are looking for just the ambience, nice smile, great service, then this can be the place.
Pros: Good parking, Nice service, good smile
Cons: Stale food - unhealthy- There were flies around the buffet stall.
