Awful Experience & Customer Service - Would not Recommend!. I purchased a wedding cake for my sister's wedding from the Short Pump location. It was for a small service (35-people) so the cake was small and two-tiered. It was to be picked up on Sat morning to travel 2-1/2 hours away to eat Sun night - I expressed this when I ordered the cake. When I picked it up, the cake was in an open box. They told me that they did not have boxes large enough for the tiered cakes - this is something that should have been shared with me when I placed the order. When I expressed my concern over it drying out by the next night, the employee told me I could go buy some plastic to cover it...they didn't even offer to cover it, said they didn't have anything. My husband told her that for as much as the cake cost ($110), they should have a box large enough to fit. He then told her that we would never do business there again nor would we recommend them to anyone. She said "that's fine, if you feel that way, we don't need customers like you." Then she said "We deal in high-end". I think that is insulting and rude. We went to Ukrops to get plastic wrap and they GAVE us a box to transport the cake in. When the cake was unwrapped, the icing was smashed in the back where they had the lid propped on it, the icing on the front of the top tier was all cracked, the top tier was lop-sided and separated and one of the cream-colored calla-lillies right on top had purple running through it - a clear mistake! Didn't look high-end to me! I called when we returned to town to speak to the owner and he never responded to me.

YUMM-O. My mom ordered a cake for my baby shower, and it was the highlight of the party. People are still talking about it, and hoping that for our daughters 1st birthday we get the same cake! I would highly recommend this bakery! We even froze the left over cake and ate when we brought our daughter home from the hospital and it was still delicious!

Terrible. I would definitely not recommend this place. I ordered their "most popular" butter pound cake for a recent birthday. Besides the fact that they lost my order, the cake was really bad. It was decorated nicely, but the cake itself had no flavor and tasted bland and stale. It wasn't even sweet. In contrast, the butter cream icing was so sweet that no one could eat it! Do yourself a favor and avoid this place unless you find yourself needing to order a cake for someone you do not like.

Creamy, sugary sculptures to make your wedding delicious.. Flour Power
Easily one of Richmond's favorite bakeries, The Mixing Bowl attracts plenty of couples who want a wedding cake that visually sings. This is where imagination reigns supreme: bring your ideas, your favorite colors, your favorite shapes and flavors and The Mixing Bowl's chefs will customize the perfect cake. A standout? Order a fondant-covered package cake (cakes shaped like boxes stacked on each other, usually topped off with bows). One caveat: cakes here are more expensive than most--prices range from $2.35 per slice to $4 per slice, but you're paying for supreme quality and creativity.

A Recipe for Success
To kick off the cake brainstorm, it's important to make an appointment to discuss ideas. Make sure you place an order at least three to four months in advance, and it helps if you come prepared with details of your wedding and even some pictures you've seen of cakes you like.
