I had been to Melito's a few years ago and had a similar experience and vowed not to return. For a vegetarian, I felt that the choices were few. That is fine, it is not a place to go for people who don't eat meat-we go other places. My family received a gift certificate for Christmas this year so we went-four of us. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, by-the-way-but they are not vegetarians. I don't know, but it appears that the menu has more vegetarian offerings now. I was pleased to see this. I choose the vegetarian sub with fries. How can they screw up a vegetarian sub, I thought; figuring I was safe with this choice. I was wrong! Basically what I had for dinner tonight was fries and a sub roll for $7,8,or 9-I forget the price but it was too much for generic resturant fries and a fat slice of bread. if an establishment is going to create a sandwich, for goodness sake make one for yourself sometime and tell me if you like it. I seems like you took some burger toppings- which were diced small and fell off the sandwich- and threw a thin slice of cheese on it and decided that smear of vegetable matter would constitute a wonderful sandwich. I understand that the cooks or management may not want to eat the sandwich themselves, maybe you are all eat meaters. I can tell that no red-blooded vegetarian wants it either. I feel it must be a disgrace to your establishment as other people seem pleased with your food. Don't drop the choice from the menu, just create a REAL sandwich!
Good food but....... We ordered to go for my wife...a salad with grilled chicken...we asked for extra bread and pineapple and the total for ONE meal came to $28.00....for a salad and garlic bread? UNREAL.....Could have gone to Lemaire. RIP OFF.
I miss you all.
Melito's is unique because of its food and management .Both food and management make the place a successful one and no body can deny that the atmosphere is full of love and heat and while eating their specials you can taste the difference of food that is made with love and passion;melito's is for lovers.i think you agree leo

a special hi to all
The BEST food in all of Richmond!.
I have eaten at Melito's for years and I can honestly say it is the BEST food in all of Richmond!
It is a locally owned, family run restaurant that always delivers great food, stellar service, and awesome atmoshphere. Everything on the menu is good, but I really like the hot dogs. Try the Junkyard Dog! It has every possible topping including the home made secret recipe chili!
Melito's is always packed because the food is so good, but the kitchen staff is still able to get the food out quickly. The service is always great. Even when they are busy they are still friendly and glad to see you.
You owe it to yourself to go to Melitos for a meal or even a drink. Have a shot of Tuaca and hot dog!
Make sure you ask for Megan to be your waitress!
Manager Loves the Ladies. As a 2 year regular at Melitos, I am continually amazed at the night managers fixation with the ladies. I have never seen this individual spend time with the regular patrons. Maybe the owner wants the restaurant run this way. Not sure. I would think, the night manager should be visting with the other paying guests to make sure everything is OK. Not sure. You may up your own mind.
Melito's. I did not have a chance to try the food as I felt compelled to leave within the first two minutes, after the manager rushed to the table seeing my unopened 100% non-alcoholic ginger beer (that is the best thing to knock out a stomach ache, by the way) and demanded that I take the bottle out of the restaurant (sounding as if I had just engaged in a criminal offense), to which I replied: 1. "it is non-alcoholic," and 2. "OK." Since I didn't jump up within a millisecond to run the bottle out the door, he replied, "NOW!" It was quite demeaning. I leaned to my dinner mate and asked if she was ready to leave. The food might have been good, but a manager on a power trip might have left it tasting rather sour.
great service. Recently I stopped by for a quick bite to eat. I was worried because the place was packed. My friend and I were quickly seated and approached immediately by the waitress to get our drink order. The service was fabulous, the food was tasty we couldn't decide what to order so we each ordered a differnet sandwich and shared them. It had a great neighboor feel. I will return. Lemon or chocolate chess pie is homemade and yummy!
Forget cutting-edge. Family atmosphere rules here..
The Scene
Sometimes all you want is good food at good prices with friendly and reliable service. You're not worried about "cutting edge." For nearly 20 years, that's exactly what this West End institution has served up.
The Food
Melito's dishes out everything from famous chili dogs to Italian- and Mediterranean-influenced entrees. The family atmosphere and homemade taste have made Melito's a tradition for dinner after a day of shopping at Regency Square or before catching a flick at the Ridge. The busy, cheerful eatery is reasonably priced, adding to its appeal. If you can squeeze in a dessert, they're as equally fresh and delicious as everything else.
excellent. absolutely the best! its been around for awhile and its always been the place to go - food is wonderful and service can't be better - eat there at least twice a week
