Don't knock this "new look" for the Avenues until you've sipped one of their made-to-order martinis.. The Scene
Stroll past conservative chintz and duck decoy-type shops into a long, narrow slice of blond wood and sleek sophistication. Choose a cozy booth or side-by-neighbor-side table to sip something from the martini menu: the Westhampton (vodka, amaretto, raspberry), The River, The Avenue or the Bus Stop Bench. Watch your dinner taking shape in the open kitchen.

The Food
Think of the menu as your favorite black dress. Added "infusions" always make it unique: Nuvo meatloaf with Yukon mashed potatoes and basil gravy or seabass with broccoli rappini and pine nuts. A filet, a chicken dish and pasta du jour have the same quirky combinations. With such obvious thought for details in the decor and the entrees, it was disappointing to see slip-ups like margarine instead of butter or pale, hard tomatoes in a salad of fresh greens. The kitchen does deliver on desserts--a chocolatey tiramisu was served with a "candy" swizzle stick and a crispy cookie.
