Very Helpful.
I went to Alexanders and let them know what I wanted. They were very helpful and called me every time one came in. When I finally found what I wanted, I went and examined it thoroughly, then came back for the auction and bid on it. I won it for less than I had decided on, and am delighted.
Everyone there was very helpful and up front with me on every thing I needed. I would highly recommend Alexander's, but also recommend that you do your homework and check out the items before you bid. They are up front that there are no guarantees on the merchandise and I can understand why. They have a lot of merchandise moved through there every week.
Liars and Cheats. We purchased a cabinet there only to be told later that is was a reproduction by an appraisal company which Alexander's described and sold as an antique. When we called them with the information, we were met with disdain, arrogance and no remorse whatsover over the obvious misinformation they gave us. Since we bid by phone we asked for a detailed description which was given to us by a staff member. The attitude there is that it's your problem if THEY give you the wrong information and do not hold themselves accountable whatsoever. As a result we ended up grossly overpaying for the item. We could not afford to ship the item back so we are stuck with a fake that we paid over $1500.00 dollars for. On top of everything else, it was damaged but described as "mint" condition to us with missing handles and splits in the wood. We purchased two tables from a local auction house after that awful experience and received much better merchandise, service and prices than at Alexander's. We learned the hard way not to trust certain auction houses of which Alexander's is one of them.
We bought a chandelier and it has been a nightmare!. We have had the worst experience with Alexanders!!!!! We bought a chandelier that was told to us was an antique (it is not) with handblown glass (it is not) and it was missing multiple parts! When we called Alexanders they said that we bought it "as is." It does not work!!!! It was missing most of the parts to hang it, was bent when we looked up close, and they added a unmatched chain to make it look longer. When we went to have it installed the installer said it was the worst he had ever seen and could not believe Alexanders would not work with us. We were completed taken advantage of, so please anyone that plans to buy anything be careful and do not believe everything they say when they are trying to sell something, they do not tell the truth and are simply trying to sell their items!
