Tips for O'toole's

Terrible experience! Should have known by the baby roach crawling up the wall to it's home behind the greasy picture hanging there, and the uncleaned food splashed on the wall next to the booth, that this wouldn't go well. Service was slow with only one waitress serving 5 tables. Ordered Bangers and Mash. The sausages were barely warm, but I went ahead and ate since I was very hungry after seeing "the Grinch" at the Landmark. The food was ok, but anything with gravy can be ok. My girl ordered a Rachel that was dry. The side salad was good though, as side salads go, but the House Ranch was watery.

We left at about 10:20 pm or so; got home and crashed and around 2 am I awoke with nausea leading to the typical food poisoning symptoms that I'll spare you in explaining. Mid afternoon the next day, when I felt well enough to make a call, I phoned O'Toole's and spoke with an extremely rude waitress named Sarah who did not want to give me the names of the managers or owner without much prodding and only after she demanded, in a rushed and bothered tone, to know what my issue was before giving me the names I requested. I finally got the names to "Call Back", as no manager or owner was "Available" for me to speak with. I hung up, but called right back and got the manger, also named Sarah, to whom I explained my experience. She said she would give the information to John O'Toole who owns the place and he would contact me later regarding my complaints about service, cleanliness, sanitation and food poisoning.

Well fast forward 2 days; I'm still suffering the effects from food poisoning, but getting much better, and I still have not heard a peep from the owner, manager or anyone after my initial contact with the "Sarah's"

Monday morning I will be making a formal complaint with the State Health Dept, and all others necessary to further voice my complaint

Some Good Ol Comfort Food!. Stranger in the area and stopped in for dinner after moving my son into new apartment. We sunk our teeth into some of the best sandwiches ever had. Their Reuben, Po Boy & if you can handle it Danny Boy sandwiches are awesome. My son went back later for St. Patty's day event and had a great time! Even has private party rooms. Need a place like this in Virginia Beach!

Worst Service In Richmond!. Total disappointment! The only good thing about this place is that it is smoke-free. The service is horrible and the waitresses are rude and ignore even the regulars. Make no mistake, this is not their charm. They're just lazy and the food is sub-par. There are a few good people working there and Lauren is awesome. Unfortunately, the majority of the staff there have bad attitudes and treat the customers like crap. The bathrooms are disgusting! The place is carpeted which is crusty with spilled food and beer. Where are the health inspectors? If you're in the area, go to the Italian or Mexican Place instead!

Good, Convenient, Smoky. I find myself often at O'toole's because its highly convenient and relatively cheap. They have good chili and I also reccomend the french dip or cheese steak sandwiches. Don't bother asking for non-smoking because you'll always come out smelling smoky. Not for the second-hand smoke phobic.

A slice of Ireland beckons you at this neighborhood pub with a long history in Richmond.. The Skinny
The neighborhood pub that has morphed into a family restaurant. It still has a solid reputation as a pub with the accompanying darts games and sing-alongs led by the piano.

Tastes Like Chicken
Sandwiches of every variety including kosher, open-faced, hoagies and burgers plus chicken sandwiches galore. Entrees cover the spectrum as well, from seafood to Italian with all the steaks and chicken in between. A full dessert menu puts the cherry on top.

Quick Note
The sing-alongs have become legendary with the sentimental set and pack 'em in. They've re-established these carousing.

History Lesson
Every St. Patrick's Day, O'Toole's holds a fake wake. In the 1700s, the English were oppressing the Irish Catholics. The Pope didn't want to lift the ban on drinking during Lent, but wanted to lighten the emotional burden on the Irish. Drinking was permissable at wakes. Thus, the fake wake allows a wink and a drink during Lent. The bagpipes play all day on St. Paddy's Day, so no wonder they want to drink.

Feels like your uncle's house. Not sure why but I felt like I was over at a good relative's house when I ate here. Felt like someone's home. Everyone was very friendly. Little crowded though. Food was good but not excellent. Good place to drink and listen to live music believe it or not. Good prices.
