The Scene
Wood paneled walls. Loud crowds. Smoke, tunes, attitude. Poe's Pub avoids the yuppie hype of downtown Richmond and creates its own reason to visit Church Hill--but don't let the casually hip scene be the only reason you go.
The Draw
This Irish pub remains one of the best places to hear live music in the city, and it boasts a full music calendar to prove it. The music: Small bands, acoustic artists and the occasional flashy show regularly rock a corner of the bar. This ain't your typical Friday Cheers band-fest, but then again, this ain't your typical Friday Cheers crowd. Poe's menu ain't poetry for the tongue with typical items like sandwiches and burgers--but the ribs and catfish dishes can intrigue diners with something different. A late night menu proves that good eatin' doesn't end after 10pm.

I guess I should not have expected much but the service by out waitress was atrocious. She came to our table maybe once every 30 minutes. Our glasses and beers remained empty for what seemed like ages. It was especially annoying since there were perhaps 20 people in the entire place and 2 waitstaff. The food was decent but nothing special. Live music is a plus. I'd skip it and hit Sidewalk unless you live in the Bottom.
