Classy Movie Night.
Step back into the 1920's when you go to this theater! The Byrd is a great place for a date. With the beautiful chandelier to the red carpet, you will feel like royalty walking in for a movie. The seats are a bit small but for a cheap movie ticket, you will get your money's worth. Great date night idea. Many great shops and eateries around so you can stop by those before hitting a movie. Do not expect new released movies to be at the byrd.

More lush than the velvet curtains that drape the screen, this historical movie house reflects the golden age of cinema..
What to Expect
Historical movie houses are still making their mark on audiences, thanks to the Byrd Theatre in Carytown. Built in 1928, the theater still has its original red velvet drapes, 5,000-crystal chandelier and an organ that rises out of the stage. The only drawback is that the seats are small and don't offer much leg room--but this theater has enough personality to make it all worthwhile.
Types of Movies
The Byrd shows second-run films, so don't show up expecting to catch the latest release. The good news, however, is that fact that you'll only pay $1.99 for one of the best movie experiences in town.
Expand the Experience
Since this theater is the perfect date destination, there are plenty of places within walking distance to visit before or after a movie. Consider having dinner at Acacia, the Galaxy Diner or Nacho Mama's to complete an evening.

classically classy.
When you step inside, it almost takes your breath away. The elegance of the theater is remarkable--is it possible something like this can still exist in the twenty-first century? It's like a time warp--and it will forever have class.

Awesome.
I have never had a bad experience at the Byrd, I love everything about it, the atmostphere, the employees, and the way entering the place seems to take you back and make you forget about all that's going on outside, it's definantly a chance to escape into the past. And for those like me that are only 5'2" the seating is miost comfortable.

Awesome atmosphere!.
The Byrd is an awesome place to go for anyone looking to visit an "old style" movie theater. The lobby is incredibly crafted, the architecture is devine and the auditorium itself is so massive and filled with decor from the 20's and 30's. The seats are well worn, the sound system is antiquated, but the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable and that's what makes the Byrd all the worth while.

One of Richmond's Best.
In the vast wasteland of Richmond's nightlife, The Byrd always, always offers something to do. Whilest driving around this godforsaken town looking for entertainment, the question 'Wanna go by the Byrd and see what's playing?' is a dependable Plan B. If not for the movie, then for the decor or at the very least the freaky kids that work there. Although the seats were probably installed in the 1920s when the average American was about 4'11", the Byrd is one of my favorite places to hang out in this grand city of ours.
