Richmond >Double T's Real Smoked Bbq
Worst Restaurant Experience Ever!!!. Me and a friend were promptly booted out of the door during the 2009 Carytown Watermelon Festival because we 'did not order food'!!!! and on one of the HOTTEST days of the year at that!!! The manager was rude, obnoxious, arrogant and dirty-looking. I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone!!! Oh and by the way; we purchased several cool drinks and was going to order food before the manager asked us to leave. DONT PATRONIZE THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!! u may get the boot too!!!
Really Good Lunch. Was looking for a place in Carytown to grab lunch with a coworker and decided to try Doube T's. First time, was really impressed. Good service, the beef brisket was really good, better than I have had at other Richmond BBQ joints. Onion Rings were a reall good side item suggested by the server. Portion was a little small, but decent for lunch size. Mr friend got the brisket and sausage, said the sausage wall well prepared and flavorfull. Will return. Overall a great place to grab lunch.
USED TO BE GREAT BUT. This place used to be great. Wow has it gone downhill. The flavors are still good save the pork which was minced so fine it had the texture of mush and no flavor at all. The brisket was cut a bit too thin as well. The ribs were chewy, the portions so scimpy as to be insulting. And while the service wasn't bad the tip was tacked on for a table of two. She would have gotten more despite the food but. Had planned on having the bread pudding too but just wanted to leave at that point .Never again.
Southern Hospitality And BBQ At It's Finest!!.
On a Beautiful Spring Day my son, who just moved to Richmond, and I took a walk down the Carytown Street.
As we walked along our hunger led us to the Most Wonderful BBQ 'Home'!
From the time we entered Double T's we felt at home with a Welcoming Greeting by the Manager and Owner. It was like walking into 'Home' with a wonderful warm atmosphere, friendly folk, and the undeniable TRUE BBQ and other delicacies' aromas wafting through the air.
It took us a bit to make our selections as there were so many wonderful dishes from which to select.
Once we made our choices, the fun really started with Local customers 'guests' arriving and then the Owner making the rounds at the tables, again bringing that feeling of home.
The food was delicious, moist and made even more heavenly home by the selection of BBQ sauces right at the table. With each bite you could add more of the REAL BBQ sauce of your choice to the meal. The corn pudding was out of this world and brought memories of the corn fields in my community to mind. They also offer as one of the geographical specific BBQ Sauces, a Texas BBQ Sauce, which having grown up on TX BBQ, I can truly say, gave me a taste of HOME.
Then to top it off, we ordered one of the HomeBaked Cobblers, always offered a la mode with a Homemade tasting Vanilla Scoop of Ice Cream. I heard another Guest say it reminded them of home and their Grandma's homemade cobbler....that was after I had just told my son it reminded me of my Mom's Cobbler!
If you want a Great Taste of Home with the Finest Southern Hospitality, 'Go Home Again' to Double T's!!
I plan to ''Visit Home' there again soon!!
Thank You Double T's!!
its only 5 more minutes to buzz and ned's....
i breezed into this carytown bbq joint on a whim for lunch for my wife and i, having seen it on the block for years but never venturing in for one reason or another. apprently there was a reason that i had never really heard anything about it.
the setting is just what youd expect from a typical bbq joint. bar right at the entrance, a coulple of people from the outskirts of richmond with REAL southern genes working the place (including two girls who apprently couldn't care less about my business). however, there was no nasal greeting of woodsmoke or MEAT. equal parts strange and disappointing.
i ordered my food with a few reccomendations from the barkeep (who happened to be the owner, nice guy) and went on back to my place to eat.
i opened my bag and was kind of stunned how little was in it for the $25 price tag. 6 small, flovorless, rubbery, greasy and fatty ribs... a small pile of equally flavorless but not -too-bad brisquette, wattery greens, watery corn pudding (wtf???!) and dismisable bbq sauce samples... and oh, cornbread to the rescue?? nope. greasy and bland as well.
while my wife and i agreed that it wasnt totally worthless, we both agreed on 1 1/2 to 2 stars, and mostly just because they were friendly. i dont really care if you let me eat all i can of your ribs on tuesday, it still wouldnt be worth the $18 to start. sorry guys.
silver lining? buzz and ned's is just 5 more minutes away...
FYI To all Parents and Diners!!!. ............................................................................................................................
GOOD FOOD. The food is really good. The previous reviews are from way back when and should not be taken into consideration. I had the sampler platter and everything on that plate was awesome. The brisket was cooked to perfection. The pulled pork was really soft and looks like hand-pulled. The portions are filling but not as "piled-high" as it was described. The service was excellent. They treat you like a neighbor. The person who waited on us was not annoying and left us to enjoy our food, just looking every once in a while to see if we need something. It is costly for regular students. Also, you can only get one refill, which is a little bit extreme for the price.
We Make A Special Trip to TT's. We discovered Double TT's a couple years ago by accident and ever since we go out of our way to go through Richmond to meet up with Double T , his great Q and his wonderful cobbler, not to mention the warm informality of the place. Consider it an experience, not a place to fill up on too much food.
Mediocre BBQ, ok service, best thing about the place is the location.
The BBQ is only ok, it is nothing to write home about. The same can be said about the side dishes. I ordered the pulled chicken "Double-T's sized" and it really didn't look any different from my wife's pulled pork sandwich regular sized. The sauces are ok, but again nothing special.
Might be a good place to grab a beer (they really are huge) after a show at Byrd Theater, but not great for much else. There are too many good places in Carytown to waste my time going here again.
Great Sauces....Bad Food.
Unfortunately my first experience here wasn't the best. The ribs were tough! The "medium" burger was "rare"! the jalape?o poppers were still frozen in the middle even though the outside was crisp and hot.
The best thing about the restaurant was the service, which was impeccable! The waiter was very attentive to our needs.
