The Scene
Polished floors, a sleek bar and lots of wood create the "Carytown joint" atmosphere here. Diners can watch the action from the open kitchen or gawk at shoppers from the outdoor tables on the front porch.
The Food
Expect the traditional barbecue menu with a few updates. Brunswick stew (with smoked chicken), western quesadillas and red beans, rice and barbecue are interesting dishes. "Pick Your Own Combo" platters feature combinations of barbecue ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken and Texas beef brisket. Top the barbecue off with a sauce: Double T's, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee or Texas hot sauce. Although you can go for the usual side dishes, why not choose roasted corn pudding, stewed tomatoes, collard greens, fried hominy, sweet potato casserole or black-eyed peas instead? To drink: Check out the milkshakes (chocolate only, $3.95) and root beer floats ($2.95) served in a cowboy boot for the kids.

Double T's serves good, solid barbeque, with a very nice selection of sauses. Side dishes are standard fare and worth going back for. Location is convenient in the center of the Fan district.

We discovered Double TT's a couple years ago by accident and ever since we go out of our way to go through Richmond to meet up with Double T , his great Q and his wonderful cobbler, not to mention the warm informality of the place. Consider it an experience, not a place to fill up on too much food.

The BBQ is only ok, it is nothing to write home about. The same can be said about the side dishes. I ordered the pulled chicken "Double-T's sized" and it really didn't look any different from my wife's pulled pork sandwich regular sized. The sauces are ok, but again nothing special. Might be a good place to grab a beer (they really are huge) after a show at Byrd Theater, but not great for much else. There are too many good places in Carytown to waste my time going here again.
