Typical American Chinese food filled with fat and grease.. Nothing more to add. You have to be in the mood for getting fat. One time I saw the owner burying something in the back outside. He has this light on his helmet, looked like he was going caving, or hiding something. Very suspicious...
The Number to China Panda is in my cell phone. I've tried most of the Chinese places in Richmond, and I keep coming back to China Panda on Sheppard. The crab rangoon is good, portions are large and everything I've ever ordered has been exactly what I've wanted when I've opened the packages. Yes, this is pretty much a takeout place, the seating is very small. Don't let that put you off, though. I always get a kick out of calling in an order, as they don't tell me how much it is or even ask for my name, yet it's always ready and they have never made a mistake on my order. The staff is always incredibly friendly, and they're honestly friendly, not the "hey I have to be friendly to the customers so I'll make myself do it" friendly. The prices are definitely reasonable. I have a feeling I'll always try different Chinese restaurants but I'll keep coming back to China Panda.
Mostly take-out, this restaurant is vegetarian-friendly..
The Scene
A scaled-down version of Panda Garden (they're owned by the same family), China Panda serves the usual Chinese fare plus an extensive vegetarian menu. Limited seating makes China Panda mostly a takeout restaurant, with delivery in the Fan district and in Southside.
The Food
What sets China Panda apart from the many other takeout Chinese food establishments in Richmond are the mock-meat dishes. Composed entirely of substances like wheat gluten and soy products, entrees such as mock orange chicken or mock shrimp in garlic sauce may sound frightening, but they taste surprisingly like the real thing. Vegetarians who long for more variety will appreciate the comprehensive array of faux fare at China Panda. And for those who prefer the real thing, there's a wide selection of traditional Chinese favorites on hand to keep their chopsticks clicking.
