Editorial Review for Mary Angela's Italian Subs – by Sunita Ray
The Scene
Don't expect to find a lot of frilly extras; Mary Angela's is not about presentation, its about getting a good slice of pizza with not too much cheese and not too much sauce. The wait for what you'd assume is a quick meal, however, can surprisingly drag on into double-digit minutes.
The Food
The subs are worth the wait. Mary Angela's does an eggplant parmagiana sub like no one else. Vegetarians will delight in the fresh bread and tangy sauce that adds to the meaty texture of the eggplant, but anyone can enjoy this sandwich. During major sporting events, fans will appreciate the ultimate combination of pizza, beer and sports on the television suspended in the front of the restaurant.

In the 10 years I have lived here I have eaten at Mary Angela's twice and both times it was the same experience - I literally got ill within a few hours after eating. Bloating, upset stomach, and nausea. Now you may ask why I tried this place again after my first experience, however I do believe in second chances and so many people rave about the food I figured maybe it was an off day. Uh....NO. The pizza is loaded with grease and the crust is limp and soggy, and the sauce leaves so much to be desired. I swear I am baffeled at why this place gets any kind of good publicity. Maybe people keep eating sh*t because other people say it's good pizza. I for one like to develop my own opinions, and my stomach will never let me eat at this place again - no matter what anyone else in the Richmond area says. You can have this hole in the wall.
Pros: nothing comes to mind
Cons: food made me ill, parking was a pain, service was poor
