Editorial Review for Jean-Jacques Bakery – by Kristine Forrest

Flour Power
Layer cakes are a specialty at Jean-Jacques, and the chefs know exactly how to turn the perfect layer cake into a fancy wedding creation. Choose yellow or chocolate cake and a sumptuous icing to match: options include vanilla, mocha, hazelnut, double fudge or chocolate rhum fondant. Strawberry, apricot or raspberry filling can also add kick to a cake.

A Recipe for Success
Although the staff at Jean-Jacques may not be able to create the more unusual or fanciful cakes, they offer services that other bakeries overlook. The anniversary cake, for example, isn't a thawed top layer of your original cake--instead, chefs at Jean-Jacques will include a freshly-baked six-inch cake on your first anniversary.

User Reviews for Jean-Jacques Bakery

3 Star Rating: Average

Having moved here from a city where I patronized a third generation baker from France, I was hopeful that this bakery could become my standby in Richmond. I found, however, the items I ordered (creme brulee, fresh fruit tart and strawberry mousse tart) to be average at best. Having gotten used to the buttery flakiness of the crust a "true" French baker, I was sorely disappointed. My son, who only will eat cake from our previous baker, even commented that his strawberry confection was "ok" but not great. For a city where the most popular place to buy baked goods is the grocery store, this is a little bit better. But my choice overall would be the Deserterrie in Midlothian.
