Richmond's favorite interactive museum keeps kids thinking with hands-on lessons in aerospace, chemistry and biology..
Overview
Is Virginia's Science Museum an interactive hub or a science class gone awry? On most days, this landmark resembles a bit of both. Housed in a renovated train station built in 1919, the museum tempts visitors to stop at each exhibit-set up like wacky interactive kiosks-and play until they actually learn something.
The Appeal
There's plenty to discover about aerospace, electricity, crystals and computers here, but you'll also encounter more than one exhibit that no longer works. The scientific theory there? That hands-on exhibits, when played with by hundreds of curious hands, need plenty of maintenance. Fly your own miniature plane in the aerospace section, or watch the huge pendulum swing according to the Earth's rotation. If you have time, stay for an IMAX film.
Brain Food. Very interesting exhibits. Great for children and adults. Very interactive experience. There is also a childrens museum next door.
