The Beth Ahabah congregation is descended from one of the oldest Jewish congregations in America.
The Skinny
An impressive collection of Judaica includes records dating back to 1789. The museum celebrates Jewish culture across the world as well as the traditions and heritage of the Jewish families who have made Richmond their home over the past 200 years. Exhibitions like "Reform Judaism: Choices and Changes" display ceremonial and personal artifacts with pride and reverence. The old photographs on display are especially striking.
Students conducting genealogical research or trying to trace Jewish family contributions to life in Richmond will appreciate the extensive archives, available by special arrangement. Located in one of Richmond's long-established neighborhoods, the Beth Ahabah Museum sponsors cultural and educational events throughout the year. Visitors to this site may also wish to ask directions to the Virginia Holocaust Museum or the Jewish Cemetery that dates back to the Colonial era.
